PROVIDENCE –– “Come in,” Raymond Harwood said when he heard a knock on his bedroom door.
But when the convicted child molester saw a Providence police investigator and two probation officers in the doorway at 36 Carter St. in the West End Friday afternoon, he tried to hide the images on his 27-inch computer monitor, said police investigator Theodore Michael.
The officers ordered Harwood away from the computer before he could turn it off. On the computer screen were 10 images of prepubescent children in provocative sexual poses, and another 125 erotic images of children under 8 years old, Michael said.
Harwood, 40, was arraigned yesterday on a charge of child pornography and held without bail as an alleged probation violator. Now, Providence Detective Robert Fitpatrick, who is assigned to the state police Internet Crimes Against Children unit, is conducting a thorough forensic analysis of Harwood’s computer.
Michael and the probation officers routinely check on the hundreds of registered sex offenders living in the city to make sure they are complying with the law and their probation.
But Michael said this was the first time they’d caught one in the middle of an alleged sex offense.
