Police in Yonkers say 18-year-old Shaman Irvin picked up his mom's cat and threw it out a 14th-story window, ultimately killing the four-legged animal.
According to the Westchester SPCA, police responded to a call of a cat thrown from an apartment window Thursday. They took the body as evidence and two days later, arrested Irvin and charged him with aggravated cruelty to animals.
When Irvin was asked why he did it, he allegedly told police he "hates cats."
A building employee told cops that when the cat landed, it took a couple of steps, keeled over and died.
According to SPCA Chief Ken Ross, the suspect told cops he became angry when the non-neutered male sprayed in the apartment as he was trying to clean up.

His defense is that he doesn't like cats? Well, hell, I don't like stupid people. That doesn't mean I can start offing them left and right!

While cats have been known to survive high falls, Irvin reduced the chances of that by placing a towel over the cat’s head so it wouldn’t fight him as he tossed it, Ross said.
Maybe someone should wrap a towel around his head and toss him from a 14 story window...

He's graduated from cats to people! An 18-year-old Yonkers man who was recently released from jail for throwing his mother's cat 14 floors to its death has been arrested in the slaying of a former friend.
Yonkers police detectives arrested Shaman Irvin on Sunday night and charged him in the shooting death of Tyrone Stone, 18, of Yonkers on Wednesday.
Irvin and Stone were one-time friends, Yonkers First Deputy Police Chief Charles Gardner said. They recently had a fistfight, police said, and the homicide might have been retaliation for the fight.
Stone was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon after leaving home to see a friend, who had been shot hours earlier, police said. A gunman shot him multiple times as he walked near 41 Morris St., just around the corner from his home.

Irvin was on probation for the killing of his mother's cat when he shot and killed Stone, police said.
The additional violence did not surprise Kenneth Ross, chief of the Humane Law Enforcement Division of Westchester's Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The division arrested Irvin in February.
"It all starts with an animal and then it progresses to a human," he said.
Ross said Irvin was without remorse when he was arrested in the killing of the cat.http://www.lohud.com/article/20091006/NEWS02/910060326/-1/SPORTS/Cops--Cat-killer-now-charged-in-ex-friend-s-slaying-
Stone, of Riverdale Avenue, had left his apartment just before 5 p.m. and was walking on Morris Street when a gunman fired five or six shots, striking him in the torso and back. He was taken to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Yonkers, where he died.
Police did not say this morning whether Irvin is suspected in a shooting in the same neighborhood that occurred earlier Wednesday afternoon. In that incident, a 19-year-old man was shot in the left ankle while he was walking on Morris St. at about 2:45 p.m.http://www.lohud.com/article/20091005/NEWS02/910050359/-1/newsfront/Suspect%20arrested%20in%20shooting%20death%20of%20 Yonkers%2018-year-old

Gee, kills animal, later kills person. I swear that somewhere I read that was likely to happen. Nah, must be my imagination, because if that were true, they would have much stiffer penalties for killing an animal...wouldn't they?

Sounds like a lot of shooting going on, maybe just as well they're offing each other, keeping it amongst friends in the neighborhood
