http://i43.tinypic.com/2zso3y8.jpgThe New Hanover County Sheriff's Office says that a man twice held a store clerk up at gunpoint Friday evening in hopes of getting deported to Mexico.

A clerk at the Scotchman store called authorities around 5 p.m., saying that a man had tried to rob the store a half-hour earlier. The man displayed a gun but left the store on foot without taking money or harming the clerk.

Deputies searched the area but did not find anyone matching the suspect description.

About three hours later, deputies rushed to the store again after getting a hold-up alarm. When they arrived, a man was pointing a gun at the clerk.

While deputies and Wilmington police officers positioned themselves around the store, the gunman left the store, still holding the clerk at gunpoint. Deputies were able to disarm and apprehend the man without incident.

Investigators said they learned that the man refused to take any money from the clerk and wanted to get deported to Mexico.

Deputies identified the alleged gunman as Jose Luis Medina-Ruiz, 37. They charged him with attempted robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and two counts each of second-degree kidnapping and hoax by false bomb or other device.http://www.wral.com/news/news_briefs/story/4442715/

PETE: I don't think you need to ask "the question" on this one.

That's one way to get an all expenses paid trip back to the home country.

Why didn't he just sell the gun and get a bus ticket?

Okay, you brought your happy ass over the border, now make a run for it and don't come back!

Even stealing a car and making a run for it would have been easier than this method. If he made it, home free. But if he got caught, he would end up where he is and with less time in jail until deportation.

What really sucks about this is the amount of money it will cost the government to deport him. First they will have him plead to his offenses. Then, if he is legal (not a citizen but only a permanent resident) or illegal for that matter, he will promise to surrender his status in the US and go back home so he wouldn't have to serve time. then, they will have to take him to an Immigration detention facility while he waits a year to be seen by an Immigration Judge to have him ordered deported and removed. then one or two Immigration Officers will have to escort him back home to make sure he disembarks the plane.

ridiculous!

Can't they just shoot him?
