Cecilia Garcia was found dead inside her home in January 2002. Police say her death was a homicide, but who killed the 24-year-old mother has not been known.
"Somebody in this community has to know something," Regina Cortez, Cecilia Garcia's cousin, said.
Garcia was found dead Jan. 8, 2002, in the shower of the house she shared with her father and her then-8-year-old daughter. Police believe she died sometime between 11 a.m. and 4:45 p.m., when her father and younger sister found her body.
There was no sign of forced entry. Family members said she had a habit of not locking the front door, so her friends could wait for her while she got ready.
At first, her younger sister, Monica Leonis, thought Garcia may have died of an aneurysm — which had killed their mother — but police told the family the next day that Garcia died by the hands of another. Police have never disclosed how they believed she was killed.
The case is still active and the family has been working closely with investigators. Livermore (CA) police said there are no developments in the investigation.
A $50,000 reward has been offered by the Governor's Office for information leading to the arrest and conviction of her killer.http://www.contracostatimes.com/crime/ci_11586356
