Iridian "Julissa" Rodriguez Enrique Vasquez
TYLER (January 29, 2009)--The mother of a missing Texas fifth grader who’s the focus of an Amber Alert says she’s was surprised to learn that the boyfriend with whom her 11-year-old daughter disappeared was a 23-year-old man.
An Amber Alert was issued earlier this week for the girl.
She’s believed to be with Enrique Vasquez, who’s 6-foot-1 and weighs 210 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
He’s named in a warrant charging kidnapping and probation violation.
Police said the girl was sneaking out at night to see the man.
A suicide note found in her backpack said she could no longer live at home and that she would rather be dead or in Mexico.
She’s 5-feet tall, weighs 110 pounds and has brown eyes.
Vasquez may be driving a 1999 blue Pontiac firebird, whose sunroof and passenger side mirror are missing.
The car’s Texas license plate number is T31-NJW.

TYLER, Texas — Police have issued an Amber Alert for an 11-year-old girl who's gone missing with what her mother calls a 23-year-old boyfriend, but the Texas Department of Public Safety declined to sanction the alert because the child left willingly.
The girl was last seen Saturday, and police have an arrest warrant for convicted felon Enrique Vasquez on a kidnapping charge and probation violation.
Police said the girl had been sneaking out at night to see Vasquez, who was convicted of burglary in 2006. A note found in her backpack said she was going to Mexico and would rather be dead than living at home.
DPS spokeswoman Tela Mange said the case did not meet the agency's statewide Amber Alert criteria because a person must be unwillingly taken or abducted.
Although the alert was picked up by news outlets and Web sites statewide, it was not carried on any billboards or electronic signs operated by the state.
Customs and Border Patrol agents are looking out for the couple, Martin said.
The fifth-grader's mother told the Tyler Morning Telegraph that she was surprised to learn her daughter's boyfriend was an adult rather than a classmate.
The car police said Vasquez was driving when the Amber Alert was issued was involved in a hit and run accident in Irving on Wednesday. The Dallas suburb is about 108 miles west of Tyler.
The driver, whose description matched that of Vasquez, fled on foot and has not been found. No one else was in the car. Tyler police said another car was reported stolen a short time later near the accident site.
Authorities said a receipt from a fast-food restaurant left in the car led police to believe Vasquez was in Houston before heading up to North Texas earlier in the week.
