Man arrested in 14-month-old's brain injury
January 22, 2009 - 1:48 PM

Police arrested a 23-year-old Colorado Springs man on suspicion of felony child abuse Thursday afternoon.

Police said they believe Liam Joseph Terry caused his 14-month-old daughter's traumatic brain injury. Officers were called at 6 p.m. Wednesday when the infant was admitted to the Memorial Hospital intensive care unit with a subdural hematoma, police said. Police did not provide a condition, but said the girl was stable.

The girl had multiple bruises and both new and old subdural hematomas and the stories provided by Terry and his fiancee didn't match.

Terry's fiancee, whose name wasn't released, later said she saw him strike the child twice in the face and twice in the arm, the affidavit stated, causing her to fall and hit her head on a piece of furniture. Terry and his fiancee called 911 after the child became limp and unresponsive.

The fiancee said she saw the 6-foot-5, 285-pound Terry hit the child more than 50 times since October, the affidavit said, and squeeze the child's head, causing the couple to fear she had a concussion.

subdural hematoma
According to Health.com, this kind of injury is caused when torn veins leak blood in the area between the skull and the brain.

Are you SHITTIN ME!?!?!? When is SHE gonna be arrested????
That poor baby has been a punching bag for 3 months (that we know of) and SHE DID NOTHING!!!!! ( yeah I know..how many times have we heard that one..)

Do any of the D'D nurses have an opinion as to what the prognosis for the baby would be with those kinds of injuries? I truely hope the baby will someday be alright.

14 months old!! What exactly did he think beating her was going to achieve??? And he'd been beating her for several months. Probably as soon as she started to walk she was harder to 'control' and she will pay the ultimate price.
Poor sweet darling.

I'm with Shellie on this one. WTF is up with the "Mom"? How could she not protect her baby from this gargantuan MONSTER? I don't give a FUCK if he IS her bio "dad" - he's a mean mother fucker who damn sure could have killed that baby at ANY moment! There had to be a time since October that this bitch could have run with her child --- but she stayed! Bitch - he has to sleep SOMETIME!

If you can't or won't protect your children - you DON'T deserve to have them!

Please, please arrest this cowardly cunt.

I hate people today.

Do you have to beat a baby girl to make you feel like a man? Whatever happened to finding somebody your size? As for the so called mother... I hate people today.

Heal little one.

Was this kind of child abuse prevalent 10 or 20 years ago or are we just hearing about it more? Regardless, SOMETHING needs to be done to stop this. How friggin difficult is it to walk away when a child frustrates you? I hope he gets the same treatment in jail.

I know people, like my husband who would kill a man for striking a child like this...punching 50X...uumm, I'll get my sword out and do the honors.

This pieceofshit, butt-ugly, baby-beater needs a beaten so severely, he will be asking wtf happened to his ears!? I cannot tolerate a grown fucking man beating on a baby, I swear, I'm might only be 5 ft. nothing, but not only would I beat the shit out of this ass-wipe, the mother would be short one less boob. slightly off topic but we sometime wonder why a child will kill a parent. It's because they are being abused and feel there is no way out. Why might they feel that way. Because of people like the stupid woman in this story. How can you do NOTHING while this 285 loser is beating the crap out of a helpless child? I hope he loses enough weight to make him easier pickings for inmates. Then he can know what it feels like

I've always found that hitting them to shut them up has the opposite effect.

Unless you hit them just right, that is...

There's no excuse for this woman not to protect the baby. She's an adult, she chose to be with this obviously abusive asshole. The baby didn't have a choice and couldn't defend herself. Send his dumb bitch of a fiancé to prison.

Yep. They damn well better arrest her too! She is just as guilty. She saw him hit the baby at least FIFTY times? And she was still with him? Fuck her. And Fuck him too! ::mad::

Fuckin Jim Bob, Redneck looking motherfucker! I hope someone twice his size beats hm 50 times-stupid fucker!

I am wondering if the "fiancee" is even the mother. I can't imagine any kind of mother watching a big ass neanderthal smack her kid around 50 times on various different occasions. At least I would kill a mother fucker that dare touch my child.

They both belong in miserably painful situations-

HATE YOU, MEAN IT-BOTH OF YOU BITCHES!:reddy:

A 14-month-old baby, now in the hospital, will end up in foster care.
This is according to family members, after her father allegedly beat the child so badly, she wound up in intensive care.

Her father, Liam Terry, has been arrested by Colorado Springs police and charged with child abuse.

On Friday, the little girl's mother fought with the court to get custody of her baby, but the court hearing did not go her way.

Stephanie Mobley, 22, tells 11 News her daughter suffered a serious brain injury, but it looks like she's going to be okay.
Doctors will keep the baby in the hospital over the weekend for observations, but then she'll be put in foster care.

Stephanie Mobley says her daughter was taken away from her in October, because Stephanie suffers from bipolar disorder.

I'm so glad to hear she's going to be ok. Heal sweet one!

That last updated article says the daughter was taken away from the mom in October and placed with the father. I wonder if she kept quiet about the beatings so should could have access to the little girl? Doesn't make much sense, but maybe in her bipolar mind w/o any meds it could have...

I hope they place this child w/a loving adopting family and she doesn't stay in the system too long

Marie Ann Nestorick, 20
http://media.graytvinc.com/images/Nestorick.jpg1.jpg

Marie has finally been arrested, she is NOT!! the bio-mom , just Liam's fiancé. She saw all the abuse and didn't do shit about it, so now she is being charged for not turning his ass in to the Po Po. The real mom "Stephanie Mobley" lost custody last October because she has Bi-Polar disorder or thats what she is claiming. Sarabella Vernes, the 14-month-old was put into foster care.

A 20-year-old woman is behind bars facing Felony Child Abuse charges.

The 14-month-old child was transported to Memorial Hospital on January 21, 2009. Authorities believe 20-year-old Marie Ann Nestorick is one of two people responsible for the child's injuries.

Nestorick is the second person arrested in this case and was one of the primary caregivers for the child.

The previous arrest was of Liam Terry, Nestorick's fiance.

http://www.kktv.com/news/headlines/40003697.html
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Liam Terry, 23, was charged with child abuse causing serious bodily injury in connection with his 14-month-old daughter Sarabella Vernes' head injuries, including bruises on her brain.

Colorado Springs police were called to Memorial Hospital Jan. 21 when doctors discovered Sarabella had bruising on the brain and "multiple bruises all over the child's body," according to an arrest affidavit.

Terry told police the girl fell on the front step of his home at 302 E. St. Elmo Ave., according to the affidavit. But his fiancee, Marie Ann Nestorick, told investigators she saw Terry strike the girl twice in the face, causing her to fall each time.

The couple had custody of the girl since October, and in that time, Nestorick "observed Mr. Terry hit Sarabella in excess of 50 times resulting (in) her falling," the affidavit states.

The toddler apparently has been released from the hospital - there was no patient by that name at Memorial on Wednesday.

Fourth Judicial District Judge Gilbert Martinez warned Terry to stay away from the girl if he posts his $25,000 bond and is released from jail. He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing Feb. 26. If convicted, Terry could face up to 12 years in prison.

Was this kind of child abuse prevalent 10 or 20 years ago or are we just hearing about it more? Regardless, SOMETHING needs to be done to stop this. How friggin difficult is it to walk away when a child frustrates you? I hope he gets the same treatment in jail.

I think it was prevalent, but not reported, pushed under the rug, covered up, and considered a family situation. For some reason there is this insane thought that kids are better off being with their parents.

Now, I'm 28 years old. I spent a long time being neglected and abused. DYFS was involved almost my entire life. And you know what, the lice, the obvious malnourishment, the bruises, and even what little my siblings and I would tell others didn't matter. See, my step-father was an ex-cop from that town. He knew how to hurt us without leaving marks. (Not that he always followed this, but if he left marks, we were watched like hawks and not allowed outside until they faded.) We were threatened before DYFS visits or meetings because they would call a week in advance and schedule it. So we got additional abuse and my mother had the time to clean up the otherwise always disgusting house. And they used our love of our siblings against us. Because don't forget, if you tell, you'll get taken away and split up from your brothers and sister, and never see your family again. Also, the abuse that you'll get in foster care is way worse than what you're getting from your mother and stepfather.

Years later, and my mother and stepfather still think they're great parents. Never will they admit that the did something wrong.

Even worse... I found out in the past year or so that the entire rest of the family had some idea of what was going on, but not the total extent of it. And they did NOTHING about it. They say they just didn't know it was *that* bad and that you know, kids exaggerate. (http://www.drphil.com/shows/show/725 This woman was tame in comparison to my mother. And my mother's rages would last for hours.)

I think now you hear about these things more because people are a bit more vigilant. But not much. Most still don't think it's their place to get involved. There are also harsher laws now, and maybe they don't want to believe that their loved one would do this, or get their loved one in trouble. So they sacrifice the kids to avoid feeling uncomfortable.

But if you know it's going on, and you don't get involved, you're just as guilty.

Dad - Jailed in General Population and made to change cell mates every 12 hours.

Fiancee - Jailed and then held in public riducule after someone squishes her head

Bio-Mom - do we know why she gave up or had the baby taken away in the first place? I have heard of this happening to other bi-polar people (I had a friend who lost her 2 kids for 2 months when she had problems with her medications, she didn't hurt her children though, just wasn't stable enough).

Baby - Hope she finds loving arms with a family that is going to show her what love is... it seems the abuse must've started the moment "Dad" got custody (October). Guess it wasn't "conveinent" for them to have that little one...
