A former Birmingham youth minister and pastor pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court to transporting a 15-year-old church member across state lines for the purpose of sexual activity.

William David Webb, who was executive pastor at Word of Life Christian Center in Birmingham, will receive a five-year sentence, according to the plea deal he entered into with federal prosecutors.

U.S. District Judge Scott Coogler has yet to set a sentencing date.

Webb's defense attorney, Tommy Spina, said he will ask that a sentencing date be set soon. Closing the matter quickly can only benefit the victim and the church, Spina said.

"We would like to get this matter behind us and all others affected by this. He accepts responsibility for what he did, and he appreciates the support of those around him," Spina said.
