PURVIS, Miss. — Authorities say Zachary Riley, who had been contracted to coach cheerleaders at local schools, was booked into the Lamar County Jail on two counts of statutory rape and one count of child molestation.

The 23-year-old Riley, of Sumrall, had taught routines to units at Purvis High and Presbyterian Christian School.

After an investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol's Bureau of Investigation, Riley was taken into custody on Wednesday.

Sheriff Danny Rigel said Riley had been placed in his jail because the incident had taken place in Lamar County.

Ok, who thought it was a good idea, for a semi-good looking twenty three year old man to "instruct" teen girls in short skirts and skimpy outfits? Seriously! I dunno about ya'll but the cheerleaders at my school were mostly hoe's anyways, and slept with mainly college guys (but that's cuz they already got the basketball team from our school, and we didn't have a football team).

Both my oldest daughters were cheerleaders, neither is or was a ho.

This I agree with, my girl's coaches were female teachers. I would have been very put out with a young male coach.

I believe if your a teacher , you shouldn't be allowed to sleep with the students even if there 18 or 19 years old, you are in a position of trust and need to keep your hands and junk / cooter to yourself.

I read recently that the Appellate court tossed out a case of a 33 year old teacher and a 18 year old student.

The appeals court unanimously agreed that the state law is vague, and that the state Legislature only intended to forbid sexual contact between school employees and students who are 16 or 17.

Hirschfelder was 33 in 2006, at the time of the alleged relationship with the young woman. He resigned the next year.

Hmm I am not sure how I feel about this...almost like there isnt enough detail on what really happened. I totally think its inappropriate for a person in a position of trust to sleep with their student I am not sure poor judgement is rape. Perhaps it was consensual? Did the girl/s get jealous or the teachers or parents or something?

When I was 16 my b/f was 19...we dated for about 4 years. And umm there was a lot of sex going on :love: Technically that would have been statutory rape??? But then again he wasnt my cheerleading coach or teacher or youth group leader etc.

And admittedly I am wondering if its because he is attractive that I dont feel so strong about it being wrong?!? Like if he just reeked of perv I would be spewing curses on him?!? Hmm this will have me thinking.

Zachary Riley, who was denied bond in Lamar County Justice Court after officially being charged with having sex with two minors, has been charged with four more felony counts.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation filed two counts of child molestation, one count of statutory rape and one count of sexual battery against Riley.

The 23-year-old Riley has been held without bond in the Lamar County Jail since his arrest on two counts of statutory rape and one count of child molestation.
