Moments after an Amarillo man fatally shot his wife, he walked more than a mile to report the death to a friend, police said Friday.
"Obviously something happened and the weapon got brought into play and a young lady lost her life,".
The friend drove 26-year-old Jeff Yager back to the home on Hatfield Circle behind Amarillo High School, where he made a grisly discovery.
The man, whose name has not been released, found Amy Yager, 26, lying on her stomach in her bedroom dead from an apparent gunshot wound to her back. The friend called 911 about 3:45 a.m.
Police arrested Jeff Yager, questioned him, and booked him into the Randall County jail on a murder charge, said Lt. Gary Trupe with the Potter-Randall Special Crimes Unit. A medium caliber semi-automatic weapon was recovered at the scene.
