Scottsdale police say a man stabbed and killed his girlfriend's elderly father Tuesday before attempting to attack her.
Walter McCarthy, 49, was arrested after police were called to a home inside a gated community near Thompson Peak Parkway and Grayhawk Drive at about 6:30 p.m.
Police said McCarthy, a 56-year-old woman and her 83-year-old father had spent time together all day long.
The woman heard noises coming from the garage. When she tried to find out what was happening, she saw the suspect dragging her father about 100 feet out into the cul-de-sac, according to police.
Police said the boyfriend had fatally stabbed Vernon Cumming in the garage.
