A Mesa Catholic school teacher was found dead in her home Tuesday morning and her son was arrested in connection with the death, a spokeswoman for the Pinal County Sheriff's office said.

Sheriff's deputies were dispatched about 9:30 a.m. to a Queen Creek home in the 300 block of East Angeline Avenue where they discovered the body of 67-year-old Zenaida Valencia, a teacher at Christ the King school in Mesa, in the garage of the home, Lt. Tami Villar said.

Deputies discovered the body after forcing their way into the home. They first found and detained Valencia's son, 30-year-old John Valencia, who lived with her in the home, Villar said.

It was unclear how long Valencia had been dead and a forensics investigation was under way.

The cause of death was not known, but deputies suspected foul play and the incident is being treated as a homicide, Villar said. No weapons were found.

Behind the home, deputies discovered a freshly dug hole but were unsure if it had any connection to the homicide or if Valencia's son had dug the hole, Villar said. The hole measured 4 feet long, 18 inches wide and 18 inches deep.

The sheriff's office was contacted after the victim did not come to work at the Mesa Catholic school. Her employer was concerned because Valencia had not called in, which was uncharacteristic of her, Villar said.

So sad.

Is it just me or do his eyes look evil?
