TROY: A 47-year-old city man turned him self in to police Tuesday and was arraigned on felony sexual abuse charges after he repeatedly engaged in sexual acts with a child.

John Gerst is accused of forcing a 12-year-old to perform oral sex on him last Halloween in a Fifth Avenue home and at least five other occasions at the same location between 2006 and 2008.

It was believed to be the first time that an individual had been charged with predatory sexual assault in Rensselaer County since it became a state law in 2006. Law enforcement officials noted that the charge did not appear on Gerst’s original arrest report because it was so new that it did not even show up in their computers as an option.
