South Elgin Police Detective Sgt. Mike Doty said Eleanore Koonce was driving a gold or champagne-colored Honda Civic with a license number 1978382 and told family members she would call them when she arrived home.

As of noon on Monday, family members say they haven't heard from the 72-year-old Koonce.

She is 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs 135 pounds and has gray curly hair.

When she was last seen, she was wearing a beige winter coat, a white sweatshirt and blue dress pants.

"She's never done anything like this before," Doty said. "She always notified family members of her comings and goings and there has always been contact between her and family members on a daily basis."

Her favored route between Carol Stream and her home on the west side of South Elgin has been North Avenue to Randall Road and north on Randall Road.

Once in a while, she would drive home on County Farm Road to Stearns Road and then Route 25 into South Elgin.

Family members indicated to police that recently, Koonce has been repeating herself, which might indicate an early stage of dementia.

If anyone has had contact with Koonce or has seen her car, call the South Elgin Police Department at (847) 741-2151.
