As the search for 6-year-old Adji Desir entered its 24th hour Sunday, more information about the boy emerged, though officials continue to regard the boy to be missing and not abducted. For that reason, said Collier County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Michelle Batten, an Amber Alert has not been issued for the boy.

“We did not put out an Amber Alert because it’s not a confirmed abduction,” said Batten. “He’s missing. He walked out of his house. Nobody saw anyone take him. Nobody saw him get into a car, that we know of.”

Adji, who was described as 3 feet tall, 45 pounds, with short black hair and dark eyes, is developmentally disabled, according to his family. He understands Creole, his family’s dialect, but is nonverbal and has the intellect of a toddler.

That makes him particularly vulnerable, said Ernie Allen, the president of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

As the search for a missing six-year-old boy moves into its third day, law enforcmement officials are doubling their search area to find him.

About 150 law enforcement officers are in the Farm Worker Village looking for Adji Desir, who has developmental disabilities and the mind of a 2-year-old and went missing Saturday.

Law enforcement officials are concentrating their search on the Northwest side of the Farm Worker Village, according to Collier County Sheriff Sgt. Robert Brown.

"We have two distinct areas we are searching. One is the residential area within the Farm Worker Village and then you have the woods with the mangroves and the swamp-like condition," he said.

Officers are conducting line searches, traversing an area north to south and east to west to ensure they find the missing boy, he said.

The officers are searching the four-square miles they searched Sunday, as well as an additional four miles, Brown said. The search includes looking for places Adji might hide, like in trash cans, and along the canal that runs on the west side of the Farm Worker Village.

In addition to officers on foot, law enforcement officers are searching for the boy on horseback and on all-terrain vehicles.

Brown said the search through the mangroves and wooded areas has been difficult and slow, but thorough.

Complicating the matter is that Adji has a limited vocabulary and is non-verbal. He knows his name, but cannot say it. Sheriff officials have also said the boy may hide from searchers and, while he may understand he is lost, he might not approach a stranger to say he is lost.

Officers began searching for Adji at 8 a.m. Monday. Brown said they would keep searching for him until they found him or were told to stop.

How sad, developmentally challenged. I doubt he will be found alive. But I pray he is.

In spite of the cold the search for 6-year-old Adji Desir, who was staying with his grandmother at her home when he disappeared.

More than 100 law enforcement officials were briefed during meeting at the Collier County Sheriff’s command center.

As of Wednesday morning, there was still was no sign of the developmentally disabled boy, who police say has the mental capacity of a 2-year-old.

In an interview following the briefing, Collier County Lt. Tom Smith said although the search for Adji continues, that the department has started to look at the possibility that the boy was kidnapped.

“The balance has always been that we’ve wanted to focus on two different directions at exact the same time, so we did not miss any opportunities whatsoever. One was obviously that he walked off and the other one was that someone took him from this location,” said Lt. Smith, the incident commander. “So as we’ve begun eliminating the surrounding areas, almost 12 square miles where he may have walked off to, you know obviously we need to start to look at that someone may have taken him. We’re just changing the direction we’re focusing our resources.”

Smith added that neighboring law enforcement agencies continue to offer up help.http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2009/jan/13/critical-third-day-passes-no-sign-missing-immokale/

Huge search for him today. I'm so glad they're really pulling out all the stops to find this boy.

IMMOKALEE: Saturday could bring the largest number of officers the ground search for missing 6 year-old Adji Desir.

Exactly one week since the boy was last seen playing in Immokalee's Farm Worker Village, the Collier County Sheriff's Office has called in officers from throughout the state for another day of searching.

"Today is an exceptional sweep. We've brought in probably 250 or so law enforcement officers, ATVs, swamp buggies, horses and a myraid of other technical equipment to search again a three mile radius," said Collier County Lt. Tom Smith.

Many of the officers are new to the search. Smith said he hopes they will help ensure "no stone is left unturned."

Also on Saturday deputies asked volunteers to visit Immokalee Community Park to pick up missing child fliers, in hopes they will be distributed throughout the state.

Southwest Floridians will also receive information about Adji's disappearance in their mailboxes.

The US Postal service is mailing 50,000 fliers to households in the region as part of the national "Deliver Me Home" program for missing children.

The reward for information is growing. The FBI announced Friday a $10,000 reward in addition to the $23,000 reward being offered locally.

Haleigh’s family hopes and prays she will be found safe. We all do. We should also be mindful that there are other missing children across the country. Their parents are longing for answers. Like Haleigh, their sons and daughters vanished without a trace. But there is a difference: their stories are rarely told.

Adji Desir is one of those children. And this is his story. On January 20th, the 7-year-old went outside his grandmother’s house in Immokalee, Florida. He was going to play with other kids in the neighborhood. But Adji never returned home. He was last seen at around 5:30 in the afternoon.

The F.B.I. has classified Adji as a missing person. On the agency’s web site, it says he has special needs, limited vocabulary and speaks on the level of a two-year-old child. He apparently only understands Creole.

Take a look at the two pictures of Adji. Maybe you recognize him. If you have any information, contact the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at 239-793-9300. Or call the F.B.I.’s hotline, 866-838-1153.

Special, thanks for the post and bringing him back to the top. Apparently there has not been enough drama and whodunnit factor to get much attention for this baby. NG gave him a couple of her last 15 minute slots.

Thanks Special. We were just talking about this weren't we?

Why has Adji been forgotten about?
Why didn't TES or LP run to his rescue? Aren't all children precious? Or are we all guilty of obsessing over another case that was solved (in a sense) when Adji went missing? The distraction causing us to fail someone else who needed our voices.
I think that since Haleigh's disappearance happened while we were putting another to rest, the nation was ready to take on her cause. At least I hope that's the excuse because I would hate for it to be because Adji was special needs, or wasn't a cute little girl or simply people didn't care. Bothers me and more so because I am equally as guilty for not giving him a voice.

Adji is an adorable cute little boy and I think he needed help even more because he is disabled.....there were many sex offenders in his area as well...the police scoured the area and went to every single home in his farming community...I think there were 700 or so homes.
I think he was abducted...and did not wander off...if he has the mind of a 2 yr old...then he wouldnt know not to go with someone maybe.

This case is tragic like all the rest we talk about....no one is more special than the next...they are ALL special...they are all little children...innocent children that have been wronged. I dont care what the color or gender....they ALL deserve attention in the media so they can be FOUND!!!!!!!

And I dont know...just a thought......cant we just send ALL the sex offenders to some fucking far away island never to return to civilization????? Fuck this bullshit letting child sex offenders.... out on the street to hurt another child!

Send them all to one place for all of eternity to rot together... the sick fuckers!

I just dont see why they are let out or given a slap on the wrist.....or another chance to have more children to just kill.

Well, Madmam you know for sure I would hate more than ever it was because he was special needs (especially) or a cute little girl. That would just be wrong he is a child just like any other child in the world. He deserve to be looked for just like any other child in the world. He is no more or no less than any other child in the world. So why aren't they out looking for him? Is their something they know that they haven't shared with the media or us yet. Because I googled yesterday for anything on him and they were all dated back in January when he first went missing. Now to me that is extremely sad and in a way very selfish of others not taking the time to volunteer to look for him, media not writing an update on him, LE doing every thing they possibly can for him. It would be nice to occasionally read an update on this precious child from the media.

MadmamainNC

They touched base on this over at Beaconhell last night as well. There are others equally ignored. WTH is wrong with this country that we single out a particular type of child and follow that type intently.
OK in all fairness, Caylee's case was not of the norm. Mother fails to report child missing for over a month -that sort of thing. I can see the frenzy there. Others like Adji, or the little girl from Detroit or the boy from Arkansas, their story isn't much different than Haleigh's.
Are we guiding the media or is the media guiding us? Or maybe it's just Floridian children? I just don't get it. I look constantly for updates and nothing.

I would love to see the Search and LE stats on Adji's case. How much man power, how much money, how many hours, etc.

I know it is Nell, I'm just releasing and venting. It's been a shitty day and sometimes things get to me and well you know I have two special needs kids. I would hate to think if mine went missing and not one person would look because of their disabilities, it hurts. Just one of those bitchy days for me.

But you know what that's what I love about you, your honest with everyone no matter what. I admire that in a person more than anything, is honesty.

As for the other children I mentioned, they also are not white. All children are precious and I am sickened over the blatant racism here.
I am not asking for attention to be taken away from Haleigh but damn it all, give that same amount of attention to the other kids. With the exception of Adji, the other children are in other states that have their own resources so it's not like they've exhausted them.
I am deeply troubled by all of this.

I feel like calling Nancy Grace and cussing her ass out. I wanna know why he's not being covered. Instead she wastes 1 hr of air time showing us Casey Anthony and her tantrum all over again. WTF WAS THAT???? If the news says there's no story, then make it a damn story. Let's really make a News Flash Bulletin. Show what's really going on here Nancy. OK, I'm not the only one who notices this. This issue really really bothers me.

When 6-year-old Adji Desir went missing last month in Immokalee, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office said it didn’t enact an Amber Alert because there was no clear indication he was abducted.

When 5-year-old Haleigh Cumming went missing early Tuesday morning in Satsuma, the Putnam County Sheriff’s office issued an Amber Alert, though it was unclear what happened.

“We’re currently working both angles — did she wander off, we’re working it that way with the searches,” said Lt. Johnny Greenwood. “And investigators are doing interviews in case it is an abduction.”

Fact: Haleigh is a little blonde girl.

Fact: Adji is a little Haitian boy.

The difference in responses makes you wonder.

This sends a scary thought to me. My daughter is blonde and blue eyed, my son is everything beautiful brown... if either of my kids went missing, I would be equally distraught and be frantic to find him or her. What about my help though? The police, search teams, community etc, would they be equally concerned for both my children or would one get a different response than the other?

Well one thing everyone can do it put daily bulletins up about him on your myspace, thanks to Madmama, i've been putting it as new everyday for the last few days, asking all family and friends to do the same.

It's just a small thing, but if we can get enough people doing it every day, his sweet face will get to someone everyday that may not have seen him before.

I just label them "Amber Alerts" with his name as the title and his pic and info in the bulletin.

Sorry Special. Like I told Madmama, I didn't even see the posts before. I have to spread rep before I can give you more so I gotcha later my Sweet Special.

Part of it is definately the media and who they choose newsworthy enough to stalk. Part is the authorities who either drag their feet in an investigation or jump right into gear on it. Are authorities also choosing who is worthy of their time?

MadmamainNC

Yes I believe they are Rockin'. Was it ever determined if Adji's mom was a legal citizen? I am curious and looking for a pattern.

We have similar situations here. There was a young girl about 2 yrs ago taken from her trailer near Wilmington, you heard about it for a few nights and then nothing. I can't even tell you the child's name. Also, the parents need to continue to be active.
The ones we remember are those the media attaches itself to.

We also had a girl around 19 who was murdered and left in the middle of the road. Story was she showed up at some woman's door around midnight begging for help saying someone is trying to kill her. It was a back road down near Bladenboro, not far from me. The woman was nervous about letting her in and left her on the porch while she got her the phone. By the time she came back the girl was gone but her shoes were left on the porch.
Not even a half hour later she was found hit and run over in the middle of the road just a bit up the way from this woman's house. Very tragic and had the signs of foul play all over it. The driver left the scene. Was it the person who was trying to kill her? Why did she run from this ladies house when the woman was trying to help her. There is no doubt in this woman's head this girl was in serious trouble.
Well, lazy as they are around here in, they finally determined it an accident. This girl was run over, had tire marks on her.
Her father went to identify the body and thought she was her sister because she was unrecognizable. Don't know the whole entire story behind that one but I have also heard bits and pieces from people around here. Family was poor and insignificant. That's how it works in this county.

Anyway, I want statistics on these missing kids. I am dead serious about this. There's a story out there that needs to be broken and brought out to the public.

February 18th, 2009, 12:33 AM
I still think about Adji and others who I haven't even seen enough on the news to remember their names, just their faces. It's a shitty fact but it's true that the media focuses mainly on pretty white girls. I want to puke every time I hear Nancy Grace say "beautiful little..2yr old or 5 yr old/ girl" It's not any more tragic just because the child is "beautiful". All children deserve all the help they can get.

Poor little boy, I hope he's found. Why was a developmentally delayed boy with the mind of a 2 year old allowed to leave his house to meet friends? Does anyone else think that sounds suspicious, or at least not well thought out?

Hope springs eternal, I guess. Part of me is always hoping that unequal treatment like this is not about racism and that there are other factors that people aren't thinking about. Like instead of comparing the methods police use in two different counties or states, compare the cases in that one county to each other. Do the police in the county where Adji is missing normally wait to issue an Amber alert?

Regarding the media, yes, there I would have to agree with the assessment that they only care about what stories are going to sell more copies of their papers, sad to say. That's why blogs and other independent media is so important. We the people can get these babies pictures out there.

Someone had mentioned the Amber Alerts are primarily used in abductions and not when a child wanders off. After time has passed on a suspected wanderer, then they issue the alert. To me it should be either case.
Who saw Adji wander off? No one. It was assumed he wandered off. They should have issued it immediately. That rule needs to change.

I wonder if they completely checked the area out? Old storm drains, wells, septic tanks, old refrigerators, etc. After reading about the little girl who was found in the septic tank, Adji could have very well gotten into something or fell into something.

I can't express enough how I feel everyone failed this beautiful 6 year old little boy.

I feel so terrible for little Adji, my heart aches.

I do think it's clear the bias between this case and Haleigh's. It's been noted before that missing white girls seem to get more news attention than other demographics. It's a poor reflection of the priorities of our society, to be sure.

In Haleigh's particular case, though, I do think there's more "newsworthy" coverage that makes it more interesting: the 17yo babysitter, the father has custody, the door being propped open, the strange hour she was discovered missing, etc. Those things are unusual and suspect, and the more interesting the twists, the more captivating the story.

In any case, I do hope they find little Adji very soon, wherever he may be. I simply cannot imagine this beautiful child's parents and the heartache they are enduring right now. It is simply horrific.

Sweet Adji, you are loved and missed.

NAPLES — Life goes on in Immokalee.

But as time passes by, Collier County Housing Authority executive director Esmeralda Serrata said she fears people might forget about Adji Desir.

“That’s been my concern,” she said. “This child is still missing. There is still hope that he is out there.”

The disappearance of 6-year-old Adji from his grandmother’s Farm Worker Village home in Immokalee on Jan. 10 shook the small community.

And although the ground search was called off, authorities continue to investigate.

“We are still following up on leads and do have some tasks that we are getting done ourselves,” said Collier County Sgt. Ken Becker. “It’s still an active investigation.”

According to Becker, the search for Adji has spread through both of South Florida’s coasts with detectives heading to the east coast Monday to deliver additional posters to law enforcement agencies.

Becker said the search has concentrated in Southwest and South Florida because of the strong Haitian community presence.

Time however, has affected the pace of the investigation.

“Unfortunately the number of leads have slowed down,” said Becker.

The family however is holding on, he said.

“They’re dealing with the situation as best as can be expected,” said Becker. “It’s a very difficult situation for them.”

Maribel Slabaugh, program manager for the Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s Collier County office, said many people in the community are still asking for fliers.

“We encourage people to take a good number so they can distribute them,” said Slabaugh. “Anything they hear, or know, or recall, they need to immediately contact the Sheriff’s office and give that information.”

For their part, the community has continued to keep close contact with the Sheriff’s office regarding the situation, said Serrata.

She added that the Housing Authority has also kept in contact with Adji’s family.

Residents are also being more vigilant, admitted Serrata.

“Prior to the Sheriff’s Office pulling out, we had a community meeting with all of our residents,” Serrata said. “We tried to impart to the residents, at that time, that they need to pay extra attention to their children.”

IMMOKALEE: The search for missing 6-year-old Adji Desir will be profiled on America's Most Wanted a week from now.

Desir has been missing from the Immokalee area since January 11th.

Deputies, other law enforcement and volunteers conducted several full-scale searches of the area, but found no sign of the missing boy.

A crew from Americas Most Wanted spent three hours Friday talking to investigators and Desir's family.

The story is expected to run February 28th as part of an 8-minute piece about missing children across the country.

Desir will be among the five or six kids profiled.

The missing boy's case was also featured on AMW on January 17th.

Investigators have followed more than 300 leads, but still have no suspect or evidence in the case.

There wasn't one as far as I know. The girlfriend just noticed she was gone and called 911 and then they put out an Amber Alert. So they should treat all cases equal. But good to hear he will be recognized on America's Most Wanted I will definitely put that down on my calendar. Thank you.

I find myself wondering how much of the additional press coverage in the cases that really get covered has to do with the availability of information and willingness/ability of the people closest to the missing child to talk to the press?

Then I remind myself that a lot of the information is generated by the press.....

Then again, Haleigh was taken from her bed. And I suspect conflicting information also attracts press attention: She was sleeping in the same bed with her father's 17-year-old girlfiend. No she wasn't, she was sleeping in the next room with her sibling. No she wasn't, she was in a room by herself but the other two were sleeping in adjacent rooms. (How big is this trailer anyway?)

Adji's grandmother, on the other hand, says he left their home to go play with friends. Presumably they didn't miss him until it was time to eat. Nobody has changed their story, - that we have heard of. Less controversy about what happened is going to attract less attention. And then there is the language barrier. One likes to think the police would still take the case seriously enough to bring interpreters, but the press are not obliged to pay for that, and they won't unless they see the promise of something juicy. "Little boy walked off into oblivion" just is not going to cut it with them. Sadly.

From March 4th:
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office received seven new leads into the disappearance of 6-year-old Adji Desir after his case was featured on the "America’s Most Wanted" television program.

"You never ever know when you go on any show whether you're going to get a lot or a little," agency spokeswoman Karie Partington said. "Its a matter of getting the right one."

The Sheriff’s Office also released a new photo of Adji on Wednesday, in which he is wearing the two-tone, blue sneakers he wore the day he disappeared. Investigators hope the sneakers will generate fresh leads.http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2009/mar/04/national-exposure-missing-boy-brings-several-new-l/

He added that on a case like Adji’s, because time has passed, the tips aren’t concentrated in Collier County anymore.

That’s where help from the FBI, FDLE and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children comes in, Becker said.

National Center for Missing and Exploited Children president Ernie Allen agreed.

“Time dramatically expands the boundaries,” Allen said.

It’s one of the reasons the center has been adamant about getting Adji’s story to national media, he said.

“We’re trying to use media to keep awareness big,” Allen said. “So we can generate the new leads we need to break this case loose.”

He said Adji’s information also had been sent to law enforcement agencies around the world.

“Obviously the primary focus initially was the rapid response, the search and rescue,” Allen said.

At this point, Allen said the investigation had changed and become a more traditional criminal investigation.

“Now our focus is to keep the level of awareness of Adji as high as possible, so we can generate leads,” Allen said. “Somebody out there knows what happened to Adji.”

Allen said one of the key messages that the group wants to send is that, just because it has been three months, it doesn’t mean the world can forget.

“Adji is still out there,” Allen said.

As for whoever has her son, Neida has a simple request — take care of Adji and return him safely home.

“I want my son back,” she said. “If someone sees Adji, call the police right away.”

I think that if a child is missing for any reason at all an Amber alert should be issued. There is no reason that one was not issued in this case. How many people actually SEE a child being abducted???? I'm sure that nobody will piss and moan because missing kids are included that nobody actually SAW being taken.

IMMOKALEE — A nationally known psychic continued her search Saturday for a missing Immokalee boy, suggesting at one point that he still may be in the Immokalee area.

Gale St. John continued to search for 6-year-old Adji Desir, who has been missing from his home in Farm Workers Village since Jan. 10.

“It’s not only about being psychic always, it’s about properly searching the area,” St. John said Saturday.

On day three of her search, St. John, along with her daughter, Tamra, and a Naples volunteer physically searched a wooded area behind the Immokalee housing complex.

“This is just too large for three people to do,” she said. “We want to be so sure that we have covered every square inch of this village.”

She suggested that the area be divided into grid sections and searched again.

“I’m not feeling anything that alerts me to him actually leaving in a state of panic ... which leads me to believe that he may very well be in this area still,” St. John said.

St. John visited the housing complex Thursday and Friday to do what she calls a “blind drive,” to get a sense of the area and find locations that have a possible connection with where Adji was last seen.

She said it led her to the child’s grandmother’s house, a playground and to Buffalo Court, a street on the north side of Farm Workers Village.

St. John said the area of Buffalo Court behind the fence and homes needs to be looked at further, as does a wooded area near Grace Court.

While searching for the missing child, St. John said she got a sense of false security behind Buffalo Court.

She said it was dangerous in the grove area, including alligators, yet she said she wasn’t speculating an actual danger occurred for Adji.

St. John noted that a Collier County Sheriff’s Office search dog had also last tracked Adji at that location, which she said she didn’t know before contacting the investigator.

On Friday afternoon, Collier County sheriff’s officials said if they had a comment about the psychic’s conclusion it would be released Monday.

Earlier this week, the Sheriff’s Office contacted St. John and hadn’t heard from her since, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kristi Lester said Friday.

Lester said what most likely would happen was that once St. John had come and gone, one of the investigators would contact her to see if further tips could be generated.

St. John will continue searching for Adji in Immokalee through today, when she is scheduled to travel to the Satsuma area of Florida to search for 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings, who has been missing since Feb. 10.

While there, St. John plans to ask volunteers to visit Immokalee and help search for Adji.

St. John said she could do a better search if she had her cadaver dog, but the dog was back home in Ohio.

She would ask volunteers to bring their search dogs.

“It’s a lot of area to cover and I’m sure hoping that someone takes the initiative to go and relook at this area,” St. John said.

Theres a pattern here of small kids disappearing and LE not taking the situation serious for several days. The most crucial time to find a missing child is the first 24 hours, not the first fucking 2 weeks. How can they rationalize a 6,7,and 8 yr olds walks away to start a new life??Sandra Cantu,Haliegh Cummings,Adji,Victoria Stafford(here in canada) and those only a few and only lately.Hows a 6,7,8 yr old get a passport to start a new life In a country that allows child labour???Just sickening more and more.

I think they are cautious not to cause hysteria.

By what I read, while it's not reported abduction in the papers, the papers report the police investigations and I think that they do act accordingly to a missing child. Unfortunately, when a kid disappears without a trace, there's not much they have to go on. They say the first three hours are critical, but I'm sure most times a kid is reported missing three hours later that kid just didn't tell their parents where they were. However, I think Amber Alerts shouldn't be used so sparingly.

Immokalee, Florida- Its been so long for Adji he has been missing for what seems an eternity. He disappeared from his grandmothers front yard on January 10, 2009 at around 5:15pm. He went outside to play with some friends and vanished just fifteen minutes or so later. Never to be seen again. Poor Adji his nickname is Ji Ji . Just adorable.

I don’t know anything about Adji only that he is so precious and adorable to of vanished into thin air. I haven’t heard anything regarding him on the tv or internet. Its very sad to me he is now in the ranks with the others of America’s forgotten lost children. Adji is a special needs child, he is six years old but has the mental capacity of a two year old. He doesn’t talk so well either he has a communication disorder.

Poor Adji so young and vulnerable out there somewhere alone most likely scared. I hope he is alive, somewhere his family is so distraught and grieved with pain. You can see it on their faces. His grandmother’s face brings tears to my eyes each time I see her picture. They don’t come from grand means or high living, they toil day in and day out to survive in this world. Adji’s disappearance only hurts them worse. Their pain is evident their sadness is deep within. It is deep within me also. I don’t report on Adji as much simply because there is nothing on him new or old.

There was a report of a psychic lending a hand to find him. I don’t know what ever came of that search I know Adji is still missing. His family says that they are doing so so in their day to day lives and they don’t sleep well. Media attention dropped Adji like a bad habit not to long after he disappeared. I don’t think its fair to be honest. Caylee got more attention in the time she was missing then found dead than any child I have ever seen in my life. Adji is still out there missing yet he gets no media coverage. To me thats a huge lack in judgment to this day Caylee still gets more coverage then any missing kid. Even in death she is talked about and reported on more then Adji or Haleigh or any other child missing.

Its ridiculous to me that this is going on in our media. Adji is still missing he could very well be alive somewhere. Yet no one wants to give him the time of day or the attention that may bring him home. I would like to know why he doesn’t receive the attention that Caylee did or does. I would like to know why. Is it because his family isn’t from grand means in life. Is it because he isn’t white? I know thats a heavy question but its valid. Why isn’t Adji covered like Caylee or Haleigh in the beginning of her disappearance? I intend to dig up that dirt, find out why Adji was left out to dry by the media. Forgotten and abandoned. Its not right at all not by a long shot.

Look at his family of farm workers. Is that the reason he is long and forgotten? Adji is a handicapped child with a communication disorder I would imagine he would be blasted all over in hopes to locate him. Caylee is dead Adji is missing. He should be top priority for the state of Florida. It’s not just Florida though there are thousands of missing children never to be in the spotlight. Not like Caylee and her circus of clowns.

Most of the attention Caylee attracted had to do with her 1) being missing for more than a month before she was reported missing, and 2) mother being such a fluent an obvious liar.

Adji's case hasn't got the power to shock the reader/viewer nearly as badly. That alone would give less coverage even without the bias the blogger suspects, - even if I can only agree that they have a point.

On January 10th 2009 the mother of a little then 6 year old boy left her son with her mother in her Farm Worker Village home in Immokalee Florida, while she went to work. Little did she know when she walked away from her son, Adji Desir that day, that he would disappear from the public eye.

Still to this day the child who is now 7 years old has not been found. Christmas at his home will not be the same this year. It has to be really hard on Adji’s mother. Apparently she was pregnant with Adji’s sister when Adji went missing. So how can one mourn for one child yet celebrate with another this time of year?

How do you keep life going on for your other children when you have one missing from the family? How can you buy Christmas gifts for the ones at home and not for the ones that you have no idea where they are? I know it would have to take someone really strong to be able to deal with a situation such as this.

This is the first Christmas Adji’s family will be without him unless he miraculously shows up by Christmas morning. But life has to go on for his mother for the sake of her 7 month old daughter. This will be her first Christmas so I am sure Adji’s mother is torn apart this year. Marie Neida, 36 years old says “I miss my son. My heart is very sad. I need to see him again.”

Collier County sheriff’s Sgt. Ken Becker said that his office and agents from the FBI have continued to follow up on tips regarding the boy’s whereabouts. He says the holidays will also be hard on the officers that have been working on this case from the beginning.

“It’s tough not only as law enforcement officers, but most of the people involved are parents,” he said. “As time goes by, it does make it more difficult.” Becker gives his word though as he says, “We’re never going to give up hope.”

Little Adji’s disappearance didn’t get much continuous publicity although he was featured on America’s Most Wanted in February and in the December 5th issue of People’s Magazine he was one of six missing children featured on the cover of the magazine along with his story in the story “Vanished Without a Trace: Heartbreak & Hope that was published inside the magazine.

His picture was also featured on a national direct-mail advertising flier that went out to 75 million homes across the U.S. from November 8th through December 13th. Robert Lowery, the executive director for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s Missing Children division said, “We were able to get a lot of exposure for the case.

Becker says they are getting more tips after the magazine was published and other publicly covered events concerning Adji. “Unfortunately none of these tips we got look like they are going to lead us to Adji,” said Becker. “But we are following up on them.”

Adji is developmentally disabled and functions on a level of a 2 year old and he is only able to speak about five words of English and he can understand Creole but can’t speak it. He does recognize his name when it is called out though.

IMMOKALEE- Two years ago on Monday, a search began for 6-year-old Adji Desir after he went missing while playing outside of his grandmother's house in Farm Worker Village in Immokalee.
The Collier County Sheriff's Office has never stopped searching for Adji. CCSO and Adji's family still hold out hope they will find out what happened.
As the anniversary of Adji's disappearance draws near, detectives, along with agents from the FBI and Florida Department of Law Enforcement, will be going door to door in Farm Worker Village and handing out fliers. They'll also deliver the fliers to businesses in Immokalee.
The fliers feature Adji's picture and urge anyone who may have information about his disappearance to be a part of the Triangle of Trust, a partnership between law enforcement, the community and Adji's family.
The fliers are just another way CCSO is trying to get the word out to the Immokalee community that their assistance in the ongoing investigation might help bring Adji home.
"We've received a lot of leads from outside of Collier County and outside of Florida, but very few from within Collier County," said Sgt. Ken Becker of CCSO's Major Crimes Bureau who is overseeing the investigation into Adji's disappearance. Adji, who would have turned 8 in October, was last seen playing outside his grandmother's house in Farm Worker Village in Immokalee on Jan. 10, 2009, while his mother was at work. There has been no sign of him since.
More than 1,300 people from law enforcement and other agencies around Florida including 700 CCSO deputies joined in an intensive weeklong search for the boy, who is developmentally disabled. Searchers combed the Immokalee area on horseback and all-terrain vehicles, in helicopters, with K-9, as well as in patrol cars and on foot.
CCSO investigators fielded hundreds of tips in the weeks after Adji's disappearance, but the number of tips dwindled by fall 2009. National exposure of the case helped to generate dozens of new leads after Adji was featured on the cover of the November 2009 issue of People magazine, which profiled the cases of six children who went missing that year.
Adji's photo and information were featured on national direct mail advertising fliers distributed to 75 million homes across the United States in November/December 2009. The National Center For Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC), Valassis Inc, a leading media and marketing services company, and the U.S. Postal Service distributed the fliers as part of Valassis' Have You Seen Me?® picture program.
Adji's disappearance has also been profiled on CNN's "Nancy Grace" show and on "America's Most Wanted" as well as on the AMW website.
CCSO has produced a video about the case and the agency is asking that everyone post it to their blogs, Facebook, MySpace and other social networking sites and e-mail the link to it to everyone in their address book. The video's release in July 2009 coincided with the six-month anniversary of Adji's disappearance.

Nothing really new, they just featured little Adji on NG's 50 people in 50 days show tonight. The only fact I wasnt aware of was they said the step father WAS at the grandmas house that day and had left to go do laundry, and when he came back Adji was missing. Hhhmmmmmm....I don't know what to think. He has been missing 745 days. Fuck.

A psychic who owns a cadaver dog?

Never noticed that until now........

As for the step-father being there that day: Why on earth was that never made known earlier? Did he know and love the little guy, or did he consider him a financial millstone around his neck?

I saw Adiji featured on Vanished w/ beth holloway.
Some this info might have already been posted but I didn't see it or over looked it.
The community he came from is unique w/ lots of diff. dialects and cultures. The problem in communication w/ the people there early on was the language barrier. Seems scent-dogs picked up his scent in several area's including a marsh are w/ dangerous predators (reptiles, alligators, snakes, etc). And predators of the human type, lots of RSO in the area, however, detectives feel if he was taken it was by a unregistered sex offender.

The family were all poly'd and passed. There was suspicion that Adji's dad might have taken him tho he lives in Jamaica, but that pans out as false.
A video from a convenience store looked promising, a man w/ a young boy that looks much like Adji, but alas, it turns out to be a neighbor from the area and his son who looks much like Adji.

Also mentioned that it is possible a family member took Adji to a voodoo dr. to "expel demons" from him to rid him of his special needs problems and that something went wrong and Adji died.

My feeling is he was taken by a predator that blended well w/ the community people, probably had his eye on Adji for some time. Wanted to add that Adji was known to hide when he got scared. The first thoughts was he was hiding in the immediate area in a home, but as we know, he has not been found.

Anyway. Just thought I'd pass this on. Apologize if it's dupl info.

Oh Adiji where are you? I really hoped they would find him when I first heard this story years ago.
I doubt it's likely he will be found safe and sound after so long since I'm sure if someone did take him they probably
didn't keep him on his medications. I hope they find him still though and at least give the child the proper burial he deserves and bring closure to his family.
