Salemburg, N.C. — Sampson County authorities are looking for a woman and her son who have not been seen at their Salemburg home since Sunday evening.
A family member reported Mary Esther Avellaneda, 38, and Jose Andres Avellaneda, 13, missing. The two left the home in a car with Avellaneda's estranged husband, Jose Cruz Avellaneda, at about 9 p.m. Sunday, according to the report. Family members grew concerned when Jose Avellaneda returned to the home alone.
He was seen driving a 1995, four-door, white, Chevrolet Lumina with N.C. license plate XZX-8054.
Family members told sheriff's deputies that the couple had been living apart. Jose Avellaneda has refused to talk with authorities about where his wife and son might be.

Relatives reported the mother and son missing after they left their Salemburg home Sunday night with Avellaneda's estranged husband, Jose Cruz Avellaneda.
Jose Cruz Avellaneda returned 20 minutes later, alone, and hasn't been seen since, relatives said.
Authorities said Thursday they are treating the disappearance as a missing persons case because they have no evidence to indicate any wrongdoing.

Mother's body has been found
A missing Sampson County woman has been found dead in a wooded area east of Salemburg.
The body of Mary Ester Avellaneda, 38, was found by a local man who followed his dog to the area. Avellaneda was last seen on Sunday leaving her home in a vehicle with her estranged husband, Jose Cruz Avellaneda, and their 13-year-old son, Jose Andres Avellaneda.
Relatives recently said the boy is in Mexico, according to investigators. That hasn’t been confirmed by Sampson County lawmen.
The whereabouts of Jose Andres Avellaneda is unknown. But his car, a white Chevrolet Lumina, was found Thursday in San Antonio, Texas.
Mary Ester Avellaneda’s body was found Saturday in a wooded area on McKenzie Road shortly before 3 p.m. by a farmer who was checking his fields, according to Capt. Eric Pope of the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office. The farmer’s dog had run across the road into some woods and the farmer followed the dog to see what he was into, Pope said.
He then discovered the body.
Pope said he couldn’t give the possible cause of death. He said the body was well off the road in the woods.
The area is not far from Mary Ester Avellaneda’s home on Patterson Lane in Salemburg.

Damn. I guess we all figured that would be the outcome.
I hope that the boy *is* safe in Mexico with family as reported, and that he didn't have to watch his father murder his mother. And I hope they catch this shithead real soon.
RIP, Ms Avellaneda.
