Raleigh, NC -- The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office are looking for a man they say killed his ex-wife and two others before taking off with his two young children, Hayes and Haley Heatwole early Thursday.
Lt. Ross Dillingham said Richard Heatwole, 45, is presently the only suspect in the slayings. Investigators believe Heatwole abducted the children. Officials say he is considered armed and dangerous.
Dillingham said deputies went to a home on Old 19-23 looking for Angela Heatwole after a family member reported her missing around 3 a.m. Thursday morning. Her car was parked outside the residence when deputies arrived around noon, but no one answered the door.
Deputies found Heatwole and another person dead. The second person isn't being identified until relatives are notified.
Officials found another person dead in a nearby home. Dillingham said that person also is not being named until relatives are notified.
Hayes Heatwole is a 6-year-old White male, approximately 3 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 45 pounds. He has blond- long shaggy hair, and blue eyes.
Haley Heatwole is a 10-year-old White female, approximately 4 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 62 pounds. She has brown-shoulder length hair, and hazel eyes. She also has a scar on her forehead that extends to the bridge of her nose.
Richard Heatwole is white, 5'6" tall and weighs about 165 pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes.

OMG, now we really to worry about those poor kids. He may end up killing the kids and then himself. I hope they don't know about their mom yet. They must already be so scared, if they know, then they're terrified.

Bumping this one up. Thanks SoUncool. This mother fucker needs to be caught.
Those poor children must be terrified.
My first thoughts were that he was desperate to see his kids and took them. I never imagined he killed people. Just so damn sad. I hope they catch him and soon before he hurts his children more and possibly physically.
Damn!
I'm out of thanks so Thanks Peeper.

Children found safe after three N.C. slayings
Posted: 06:57 AM ET
(CNN) — Two children of a woman who was among three people found dead at a home near Asheville, North Carolina, were found safe Friday morning with their father in Taylorsville, police there said.
There was no immediate confirmation on what happened to the father, Richard Doughlas Heatwole, 45. Police earlier said he had abducted the children and that he should be considered armed and dangerous.
An Amber Alert issued Thursday for Haley Heatwole, 10, and Hayes Heatwole, 6, was cancelled early Friday after the children were found in Taylorsville, about 60 miles east of Asheville

Petersburg. (missingexploited.com) BUNCOMBE COUNTY, NC -- A triple murder suspect who authorities believed might be headed to Pinellas County with his two children is dead after a standoff with police.
According to several affiliates, 45-year-old Richard Heatwole committed suicide after a two-hour standoff with police in Alexander County, NC, near Winston-Salem.
An Amber Alert was canceled for his two children, 10-year-old Haley Heatwole and 6-year-old Hayes Heatwole. The alert said the three were possibly headed to St. Petersburg, where Heatwole once lived.
Investigators say he held his kids hostage at a home in Taylorsville this morning. Paramedics checked out the kids, who are OK.
Heatwole was the prime suspect in a triple homicide in North Carolina. One of the victims was Heatwole's ex-wife, who is the kids' mother. The bodies were found in a home in Buncombe County on New Year's Day.
Heatwole was on probation in Pinellas County for several drug possession charges. He was arrested in November of 2007 and lived in St. Petersburg at the time, according to his arrest report.
Deputies said they arrived at the family's home outside of Asheville, NC after someone called 911. When deputies arrived they found the bodies of two people inside the home. While investigating the case, they found a third person's body inside a nearby home.

Thank God he didn't kill the children. Personally i'm glad he offed himself, but I hope it was not in front of the children.
Dear God, i'm so thankful they're safe, but they are going to have such a different life now, their father murdered their mother, offed himself. I hope they have loving extended family that will get them the help they will need and give them all the love and affection in the world.

LOL! Too funny Crickett. Have you read the posting rules for the forums? If you haven't, maybe you should. And it takes a hell of a lot more than a missing article link to piss me off. AND, perhaps you read my response wrong, I said "please" and explained WHY it is important. I'm starting to suspect that perhaps someone pissed in YOUR cornflakes, dear.

Crickett, SoUncool is correct about posting the links and I was told you are supposed to quote the article as well. I'm not trying to upsest anyone here but I was doing it wrong when I first started and Lizard was kind enough to explain to me how it was down. I believe she does have a thread in the forums on how to post news articles. It's also for legal purposes to quote and post a link, I believe. But I would double check the forum link in regards to this.

Suspect dead in triple homicide, kidnapping
Jon Ostendorff
An argument over property during a divorce could have sparked a triple homicide and kidnapping that ended early this morning when the suspect shot himself, an official said.
A four-hour standoff with the cousin of the suspect ended when SWAT teams raided a home in Alexander County.
Inside they found 45-year-old Richard Heatwole dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, said Lt. Ross Dillingham of the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies from the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office set up surveillance at the home early this morning after authorities got tips form the public that Heatwole was there with his two children. The N.C. State Bureau of Investigation and the SWAT team from nearby Catawba County assisted along with Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan and his detectives, bringing the total force in Alexander County to about 60 personnel, Dillingham said.
Investigators say Heatwole kidnapped 6-year-old Hayes Heatwole and 10-year-old Haley Heatwole from a house on Old U.S. 19-23 sometime on Thursday after killing their mother, Angela Neilson Heatwole, 49, and two other unidentified people.
The tactical teams surrounding his cousin’s house used a patrol car PA to call for Heatwole to surrender around 1 a.m. after arrest warrants were issued in Buncombe County for kidnapping.
Deputies heard a single gunshot from inside the house shortly after calling for the surrender.
They negotiated with Heatwole’s cousin, who was still inside with the children, for about 4 hours before entering the home and taking him into custody. He was not armed, Dillingham said.
He was questioned but investigators do not believe he was involved in the Candler homicides.
The two children are with their grandparents this morning.
The investigation into the triple homicides is continuing but authorities have no other suspects.
“We still have some more follow up to do on the investigation itself, but we feel 100 percent sure that the person who is responsible for this crime is now deceased,” Dillingham said.
Dillingham said investigators are still trying to determine how the three were killed. Autopsies are planned.
He also said they would like to know the motive in the killings.
“We know that they were going through a divorce, we know that they had some disagreements over some different property that was to be changing hands between the two,” he said. “We know that may have precipitated this incident, but for a definite on what happened, I don’t know.”
Yellow crime scene tape was strung in front of the two houses Thursday as investigators sought clues in the slaying. Spotlights were brought in to illuminate the area.
Neighbors expressed shock at the slayings and described the suspect as “well-thought-of in the neighborhood,” said Clyde Curtis, who lives across Old U.S. 19-23 from the houses where the bodies were discovered.
“This comes as quite a shock. I hardly knew Richard. I'd see him in passing, and he threw his hand up. He seemed friendly enough,” Curtis said.
Richard Heatwole operated a driving range near his home, according to neighbors. They said it was called Big D's driving range, but a telephone listing for Big D's was for a handyman service. The business' address was 272 Old U.S. 19-23.
Dillingham said Richard Heatwole was on probation for a drug charge in Florida.
“You never expect anything like this in your neighborhood,” Curtis said
Another neighbor said she would see the Heatwole family outside but had little contact with them.
“I think it's a little too close to home,” Toni Keenan said.
Neighbors reported seeing a sheriff's patrol car at the house late Thursday morning but thought it was a speed trap."
