An Orange County deputy sheriff shot into a Jeep this morning during a "well-being" check on Natoma Way.
Deputies were was summoned about 9:25 a.m. to 3215 Natoma Way by a 911 caller who was concerned that a man was inside the parked vehicle in the driveway for a long time with the engine running. Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jeff Williamson said deputies made contact with a man inside the Jeep, and a physical altercation erupted.
Williamson said the man tried to flee in the Jeep and almost struck the deputy, who then fired into the vehicle, which sped away.
Deputies are still searching for the man and the vehicle.
Williamson said a thorough canvassing of the area and interviews with neighbors failed to turn up additional information about the man's identity.
