A criminal complaint is revealing new details after a mother in McKeesport was charged with assaulting her 19-month-old son.
Malakia Shealey, 18, has been charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children.
At last report, her son, Kidel Ledbetter, was listed in critical condition at Children's Hospital.
According to the criminal complaint, Shealey told investigators she became frustrated with the toddler and hit him from behind. The child hit the radiator, which was mounted on the wall.
The complaint says that Shealey struck the child again in the side which propelled him across the room and into another wall.
Shealey told police the toddler then fell on the floor and began breathing strangely.
Shealey and her fiancée took the child to McKeesport Hospital where staff alerted authorities about possible child abuse.
The baby was later flown to Children's Hospital and Shealey was taken in for questioning.
