MIAMI (CBS4) ―
As most families celebrating Christmas gather around the Christmas tree together Christmas morning, one Miami-Dade family is frantic with worry after a 6 month old baby disappeared just before the holiday. Police are searching for little Riley Buchness and a woman who may have him.
The baby disappeared December 23rd, and Miami police say he was last seen in the area of 5500 NW 7th avenue. Police did not offer details of his disappearance.
Riley, who is about a foot tall, white, with a single tooth, was last seen wearing a white onesie with blue jeans. His hair is in a mohawk style, he has one tooth, and a fake tattoo on his left arm of an anchor.
The child may be in the company of 20 to 30 year old "Camille" with an unknown last name and speaks with a heavy French accent. She is a white, 5 feet 5 inches tall, 130 pounds, very long brown hair, brown eyes, and a gap between her teeth.
Police say Riley and Camille are possibly traveling in a red Acura, possibly with a Massachusetts tag.
Police are asking anyone who sees the child or the car to contact their local police department.

Call me an old fashioned behind the times crone, but I can't picture slapping a fake tat on such a little baby.

Well that is just weird. Who is this woman and how did she get ahold of the baby? The parents don't even know her last name? Seriously? Was she selling baby tats and while they checked out the flash she ran off with the baby? I don't get it.

Big difference between a 14 month old & a 6 month old . When mine were 14 months they were running around and could tell me what they wanted . Who puts a fake tattoo on a 6 month old baby ?

It just sounds from the article like they had him done up like Baby Finster.

A cute little thing like that toad tat is one thing, but an anchor? What, are they going to find him bellied up to a Navy bar in his high chair? Can you picture him at 12?

I don't know about the mother but I'd sure as hell would be bounty hunting for a french Camille with long brown hair and a gappy, tooth grin....oh, yeah, me and my Katana sword would be very busy...run, bitch run...I'm coming to get you!...sorry, slipping into fantasy world there for a moment.
Seriously though, the mother must be in deep distress and frantic to find her baby...sucks this happens at all but during Christmas, really, really sucks. I hope they find this sweet boy and he makes it back home safe and happy.

A frantic hunt stretched into the night Thursday for 6-month-old Riley Archer Buchness, who was last seen with his nanny Tuesday.
The nanny, known only as Camille, has not answered her cellphone or responded to text messages.
The boy's parents said they last spoke with Camille on Tuesday, and when she didn't bring the boy back on Wednesday, they called police.
Police said they had only a vague description of the nanny.
The boy's parents said they did not know Camille's last name.
They told authorities she lives somewhere along Biscayne Boulevard, although they have not been to her house. She drives a red Acura, possibly with a Massachusetts license plate, they said.
The young couple moved from Boston in September. They knew Camille from Boston, where she had baby-sat for Riley.
Within the past month or two, she called to say she had moved to Miami and offered to watch the boy once again, the parents told police.
On Tuesday, they said, she was taking care of Riley and sent a text message to McCormic to say the baby had just woken up and she was going to bring him to her home.
Two hours later, they said, Camille sent a text message saying she was running late and stuck in traffic.
By 5 p.m., when Camille had not dropped off the baby, McCormic called Camille to say she had to run out of the house and that Riley could stay at the baby sitter's. She asked that Camille drop him off by 3 p.m. Wednesday so they could take him to Georgia to see family.
On Wednesday, Camille still hadn't dropped Riley off at the house. She was not answering her cellphone or responding to text messages. At 8 p.m., the family called police.
''As of now we have been following any possible leads trying to find out who Camille is,'' Moreno said. The parents are not suspects at this point in the investigation, he said.http://www.miamiherald.com/news/southflorida/story/826570.html

They don't know her last name? They don't know where she lives? Yet they allowed her to watch their precious child?
They knew her from Boston and suddenly she showed up in Miami.
Too many why's and if's....sounds suspicious. Can they prove any of the phone calls from her to them? Are they ALL from her cell phone or can any be traced to another phone? Where did the cell phone ping from?
He's ONE FOOT TALL? Hellooooo....my shortest child was 18" (one and a half foot tall) at BIRTH!
Sounds like Casey with a twist thus far. God help this little child.

I sure hope this isn't a copycat crime, it's starting to sound like it though.
Which is kind of surprising, given that the original babykilling criminal's goose is in the frying pan headed towards the fire. Susan Smith Syndrome again?

Police: Missing Baby Story "Fabricated"
Megan McCormick Charged With Filing A False Police Report
Megan McCormick, in police custody, has been charged with filing a false police report for lying about the disappearance of her baby.
Megan McCormick has been charged with filing a false police report for claiming this child was her son and disappeared December 23rd. Police say she lied about the whole story and she does not have a son who is missing. McCormick found this picture on the internet.
The search for a baby, reportedly missing since December 23rd has been called off after Miami police say the whole story was fabricated by a woman who claimed to be the missing child's mother.
That woman, Megan McCormick, has now been charged with filing a false police report. According to Miami police detective Freddy Ponce, Megan McCormick made up the story about her missing 6-month old son to cover up the fact that she had a miscarriage six months ago and didn't want her boyfriend, John Buchness, to know the truth. Detective Ponce explained to CBS4's Marybel Rodriguez that when Buchness came to town for the holidays to visit McCormick and his son, she made up the story about the baby disappearing with a nanny.
Trouble is, police say, there was no baby and there was no nanny. McCormick found the picture of a child on the internet and made up the story. She claimed the baby was last seen with a nanny named Camille on December 23rd but McCormick didn't have a last name for the nanny or an address.

I KNEW IT!!! Well, actually I knew the story was made up - not the baby was made up.
Like Nell, as soon as I read the nanny crap I thought "Oh No, shades of Casey Anthony".
Glad the wacko is only hurting herself and not a baby.

I kind of wondered about that baby pic as I kept thinking I'd seen it somewhere. Weird. Oh well, no dead baby this time. I'm glad that "mommie" was just a nut. It's odd that she didn't tell the daddy that she'd had a miscarriage (if that's even the truth). Was he giving her money or something?

MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- Meagan McCormic faced television cameras on Christmas Day to plead for the return of her missing 5-month-old son.
Meagan McCormic, 22, is charged with filing a false police report about a missing baby.
I don't even know if he's dead or alive," she said.
In fact, she knew that the child had never existed, police said.
McCormic was trying to lure an ex-boyfriend back when she invented a missing-child story that triggered a statewide search this week, police said Friday.
Investigators have charged the 22-year-old with filing a false police report. If convicted, they said, she may have to pay authorities for the cost of their search.
She was scheduled to appear in court Friday afternoon.
McCormic had described her infant son as having a mohawk, a single tooth and a fake tattoo. She told reporters his name was Riley Buchness and that she had left him with a nanny who had a French accent and a gap between her teeth.
She invented the story to lure back an ex-boyfriend by pretending he had fathered a child he did not know about, said Delrish Moss, a spokesman for the Miami Police Department. When the boyfriend showed up and asked to see the child, Moss said, McCormic told him the boy was missing.
"He finally decided to show up, and she created a story and he had no idea," Moss said.
On Christmas Day, the estranged boyfriend attended a news conference with McCormic under the impression that he had a son who was missing.
"I don't understand," John Buchness, 26, said then, choking back tears. "It's Christmas."
McCormic told police she had left her son with a nanny named Camille.
"I don't know if they're in Florida," she said. "I don't know where they are."
Authorities around Florida started looking for the boy and nanny, using the descriptions McCormic supplied, police said. She even gave police a picture of the boy, but Friday they said they believe she had downloaded the photo from the Internet.

Geez, she racked this poor bastard and the whole city over the coals, what a cunt. She made him cry and plead on national TV for fucks sake. Poor bastard. She even pretended to be the french girl on the phone and talked to him. I dont know, if it was me I would want to hurt her pretty bad for all that shite.
John Buchness stood beside his girlfriend, also crying.
This poor guy was sucked in emotionally. Remember, even though the baby didn't exist, he thought he had a little boy,'' Moss said. "He flew down from Boston excited to see his baby on Christmas. And just like that, it's taken from him. To him, that baby was real.''
The report also affected officers who missed out on time with their family on Christmas to join the search.
"A lot of these guys have kids of their own, so there's a connection,'' Moss said. "Then you start worrying about the most horrible things that could happen. We all know that the more time that goes by, there's more chance that this isn't going to end well.''
When Buchness arrived, he was told Riley was out with the nanny, police said.
As time passed, McCormic even used a separate cell phone to call and pretend she was Camile, explaining she would be late returning the baby, according to police.
By Wednesday, the baby hadn't materialized, and the couple called police.
Buchness wanted to break up last year, and McCormic wanted to keep the relationship going, police said.
She hid the miscarriage from Buchness because "she felt that the only way to keep him around was to keep the baby alive and away from the father,'' detectives wrote in an arrest report.
When she finally confessed, McCormic showed some emotion, but police aren't sure she was sincere, Moss said.

A woman who spun a fake tale of a kidnapped baby -- in a failed attempt to win back her ex-boyfriend -- must pay $8,321.60 for police hours spent investigating her claim, a judge ruled.
Meagan McCormic, 22, had faced a charge of making a false crime report. She agreed in court to pay $200 a month to the Miami Police Department, which in December assigned about 20 detectives to search for two days for a baby that never existed.
County Judge Mary Jo Francis agreed to give McCormic a ''withhold of adjudication,'' meaning no conviction will show on her record.http://www.miamiherald.com/news/miami-dade/story/918441.html
