Thomasina Mack, 25, and her boyfriend, Demario Smith, 28, were arrested by Newnan Police officers after Mack's daughter, Makayla, died with "questionable marks" on her body.
According to Newnan Police, the toddler was transported from Piedmont Newnan Hospital to Atlanta with "visible injuries" and placed on life support.
Additional injuries were reportedly found during an initial Georgia Bureau of Investigation examination.
Subsequent interviews with Mack and Smith, a review of hospital information and GBI findings and a visual evaluation of the victim's condition led to the arrest of the couple for child cruelty.
The exact nature of Makayla's injuries was unavailable Friday, but police say the trauma probably occurred during the week prior to her death.
The child was reportedly found unconscious in her bed by one of the suspects, who was checking on the welfare of another child, 9-month-old Ciarra Smith.
The infant appeared uninjured, according to authorities, and was placed into the custody of the Coweta County Department of Family and Children Services.
The results of a GBI autopsy are pending.http://www.times-herald.com/Local/10-000-bond-set-in-death-of-child-617292
