A Martinez man was arrested Friday on suspicion of committing lewd acts on a child at a day care center that he was running despite not being licensed to do so.
Investigators said 54-year-old James Jensen was running the in-home day care business for his wife. The wife is licensed, but she was not running the center at the time the crimes occurred.
"He has been running the business for the last number of months because his wife has outside employment," said Martinez police Sgt. Glenn Walkup. "That's a violation of the state-licensing requirement for day care centers."
Walkup said Jensen's wife is not involved in the criminal investigation.
The allegations came to light Monday when the mother of an 8-year-old girl reported to investigators that her daughter said she had been molested, police said.
The child was interviewed by police and a warrant was issued for Jensen's arrest. He was arrested without incident and police searched his home. Only the one girl has been identified as a victim, police said.
"There could be additional victims," police Detective Mike Estanol said. http://www.mercurynews.com/crime/ci_11273934
"It's completely unfounded," Jensen's wife, who did not give her name, said Friday. "My husband wouldn't do that. He's a good, Bible-believing man, a Christian man."http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/12/20/BACQ14RLBC.DTL
