A Lufkin father has been arrested after his 2-year-old son brought to a Lufkin emergency room Monday tested positive for PCP.
Witnesses told investigators the child ate some white powder he found on a counter while his father, Andrew Darnell Dodd, 27, was at home, an arrest report stated.
Dodd has been jailed on charges of endangering a child — a state jail felony offense.
This is not the first time Dodd and his infant son had a run-in with Lufkin Police. In 2007 officers arrested Dodd for public intoxication after catching him running naked down Weaver Street carrying his son, 1-year-old at the time, the report stated. Child Protective Services has temporarily placed the child and Dodd's four other children with relatives.
The child's mother, Loreeka Dodd, came home Monday and found the child was "lethargic and not acting as usual," the arrest report stated. She took the child to Woodland Heights Medical Center where a urine sample taken from the child tested positive for PCP.
After the child tested positive for PCP medical officials transferred him to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston for further treatment. The toddler has since been released to family members and is doing well, said Lufkin Police Det. David Cross, who is investigating the case.
Cross said he carried out a search warrant of the Dodd's home Wednesday night and recovered several items to be sent off to a state lab and tested for traces of illegal drugs. The detective said he expects additional charges will be filed against Dodd and his wife. who allegedly knew about drug use around their children.
As for Dodd's arrest last year, Lufkin Police spokesman Lt. David Young said that case was referred to CPS.

The mother of a 2-year-old who tested positive for PCP has joined her husband in being arrested on charges related to the incident, police said Friday.
Loreeka Dodd, 32, went into custody Thursday night, charged with abandoning/endangering a child as well as an unrelated outstanding warrant for aggravated assault causing bodily injury.
Police arrested Dodd after investigators uncovered she had knowledge that her husband, Andrew Darnell Dodd, 27, was high on PCP at the time she placed him in charge of their son and another child.
"The mother was charged with endangering a child based on further investigations which showed she had left her child and another in his custody while she knew he was high on PCP on Dec. 11th," said Lt. David Young, spokesman for the Lufkin Police Department.
Witnesses told investigators the child ate some white powder he found on a counter while his father was at home, an arrest report stated. Dodd's husband went into custody Wednesday afternoon, charged with endangering a child.
Police arrested another woman in the house at the same time as Andrew Dodd after allegedly finding her in possession of PCP.
Officers arrested Erica Ann Redd, 20, Wednesday afternoon at the Dodd residence and charged her with possession of a controlled substance — a felony offense.
