Gainesville Police have been working since 1:15 a.m. to figure out how and why a six-year-old boy fell or was pushed out of a car at the intersection of NW 34th St. and NW 39th Ave.
The child received scrapes on his right knee and elbow, according to police Lt. Steve Weaver.
"Our detectives are still investigating this, but two witnesses reported this after they saw a child appear to fall and then the vehicle sped off," Weaver said.
The little boy told police that his parents began to argue and he got scared and tried to get out. The witnesses called police and tended to the child until officers arrived and could contact the Department of Children and Families.
A woman identified as the boy's mother, Dominique L. Williams, 24, Lacrosse, was arrested and charged with child neglect. She was being held at the Alachua County Jail on Friday morning.
"She denied there had been any violence and she could not provide an explanation for why the child had fallen from vehicle and she left and didn't report him missing," Weaver said.
Williams reportedly told detectives that she stopped the car at the intersection because and her husband had been arguing over a bottle of liquor. Detectives were looking for Williams' husband on Friday morning.
