According to Fort Worth police, it was around 8:30 p.m. when a man identified as Michael Steven Reed walked into the restaurant wearing a white rag tied around his face and carrying a big tree branch.
The 50-year-old suspect immediately held the branch over his head, in a ready to strike position, and demanded that an employee give him 'all of the money'.
This is Texas, but the events that happened next were more like something you'd expect to read about in Camelot.
Witnesses say a 56-year-old Eddie's Chicken employee was unfazed by the tree branch threat, grabbed a broom, and took on the attempted robber. Police say the two men then engaged in a 'battle of wooden swordsmanship'.
The duel of the woods ended when another Eddie's Chicken employee hit Reed with a chair, causing him to drop his tree branch sword. The suspect ran from the restaurant without his branch or any money.
Police quickly found Reed, hiding behind a dumpster, at a nearby church. He was taken into custody without further incident and booked on Aggravated Robbery charges.
