View Full Version : New Year's Plans?

Hey, gang! Anyone have any awesome NYE plans this year?
I got back together with the boyfriend in time to spend our 8th anniversary together. We decided that, since we were broken up for less than 6 months (and were civil the entire time), that it doesn't reset. :p
Of course, NYE is also Mike's roommate (and our good friend) Karl's 27th birthday, so it's extra exciting. Karl will be bartending at a local pub, though, so that's where we'll be. I'm pretty excited. I've spent many an anniversary celebrating Karl's birthday, and it's never disappointed (it was at Karl's b-day party that Mike and I met).
So, now that you know more than you ever cared to about my NYE plans and relationship status, what are your plans? :D

Provided that we find a babysitter, Mr. ZB is dragging me to a party thrown by someone I'm not crazy about. This guy is hubby's friend, and he's about to move out of state, so I have to humor him. The worst part is that I know this one guy I can't STAND is going to be there. He gets all grabby and starts hitting on me when he's been drinking, and my husband is oblivious to this. Drives me up a fucking wall! :grrrrrr:
I'd just as soon sit at home and get shitfaced in front of the Wii. NYE isn't really a cheerful day for me (my mom died on NYE), and there's too many drunken crazies on the road. *sigh*

Yikes, ZB! Looks like you're hoping for simply the least suckage. That bites. I feel your pain regarding the grabby friends. You should tell him what's up.
...and what's with parents dying on holidays? The anniversary of my mom's death made for a very somber Thanksgiving, this year.

Sorry to hear about your Mom, ZB. (I lost my mommy when I was 18)
For NYE gonna do the same thing we usually do. Sit home, smoke lots of pot, watch the ball drop on TV and have a glass of champagne with a dollop of vanilla ice cream....damn good shit.:D

...and what's with parents dying on holidays?I know, right?! Soooo selfish! *ahem*
Thanks for the sympathy though, ladies. I've made peace with it. She wanted to die, and even though she had been suffering for a few days leading up to it, when the end came, it was peaceful.
So we're a bunch of motherless broads, huh? Maybe that's why we all get along so well.

Being young and motherless definitely builds character, but I can't say it's made me for friendly, exactly. It's more likely we all get along so fabulously because we're dope sauce. It's just that simple. ;)
Champagne with ice cream? That actually sounds fantastic. I should try that some morning.
(I eat ice cream for breakfast now and again just because it's my right as an adult. Similarly, I drink in the morning every now and again for the same reason. Combining the two sounds like nirvana. :p )

Oh, it is delicious. Had it one year at a friends NYE party. It's like milk and pepsi (milk toning the soda pop bubbles)....the ice cream kinda tones down the bubbles. :D

I'm so on it. :)
I don't drink Pepsi products (I'm solidly a Coke devotee) and have never tried milk and soda, but I used to do milk and orange juice. Good shit, man...Good shit.

I am with you Athena! On occasion I also have a little drink in the morning. Not very often, just a little hair of the dog, you know? A bloody mary or a shot of whiskey before work never hurt anyone. Unless....it's like 5 shots of whiskey.

I was thinking more along the lines of a mimosa or specialty martini, lady! I take it easy with the morning drinking. A bloody mary would qualify I guess, but it tastes like boozed up spaghetti sauce to me.
...Now, a shot of whiskey? Straight outta left field, there. :p

I bought a seat with a bunch of friends at a restuarant. Pretty nice joint. It's on the Great South Bay and they host weddings and such so it's a huge place. You buy a seat, all you can eat and all you can drink. As an added bonus they serve breakfast at 2:00am.
But if I don't get over being sick by then I'll be watching the Twilight Zone marathon instead.

Sick enough to ditch awesome sounding plans? You poor dear. I'll try to wish you well, but I don't guarantee the accuracy of my vibe waves from 3000 miles for shit.
Sounds like an expensive seat and a good time, dude. I hope you make it. :)

I have a plan and a back-up plan.
My friend works at Universal Studios and every year, they have a band play at Citywalk and its uber-expensive (like $125 a person). Anyway, this year is Foreigner and the B-52s. He is going to try and get us both in for free.
My back-up plan is going to a party with a friend who is in town until New Years morning. He's going back to training (Army) for helicopter piloting. So, either way, I'm sure I'll have something to do.:)

I have no plans.
I am a complete and total loser.
Actually, I'm completely and totally without a babysitter and the other half has this thing about me going out on New Year's Eve WITHOUT him. Can you believe it?
So, I'll probably do the same thing as swivel. Only I'll probably wake up at around 12:30 or so just to call the cops on the neighbors for making too much noise.
If I can't have fun, NO ONE can have fun...:D

I am actually scheduled to work at 11PM, New Years Eve and New Years Day. I will not be going in on NYE. I don't have any real concrete plans but I know I can easily find something to do or somewhere to go. I am also sick as hell right now so I may end up staying home and doing nothing.

New Years Party with the gang.
Then a few of us are going to a house for a while to watch some movies.
Spending the night at the girlfriend's house, her moms is out of town, and her sister... whatever. :D

Yeah, I think my NYE is going to suck. There's a huge party tomorrow but the way I am feeling this morning I may actually be calling off of work because I'm sick, not to party. :ouch:

I managed to talk hubby out of the party with the grabby guy, but it was all for naught, because I just found out that dude is in a wheelchair. At 28 years old, he has already had both hips replaced and can barely walk. I KNOW I can outrun a wheelchair.
Now hubby wants to go to what's called "First Friday." The first Friday of every month, they cordon off a whole street in downtown St. Pete, and everyone gets shitfaced on the street with live music and shit. We could take the kids down there, but on any given weekend, the crowd is so thick that you can barely get through it. I don't want to drag the kids through that. I know it's going to be even busier than normal. Unfortch, I don't think we can find a sitter at this point. Bummer.
*Edit* Durp! It wouldn't be First Friday because, well, it's not Friday. Hubby was mistaken. It was "First Night" he was talking about which IS kid friendly but does not allow alcohol, so that is out. Just thought I'd clarify.

I am trying to get out of an engagement. I have gotten to the age that I just get aggravated when I am around a slew of drunks, and I get super-aggravated if I am one of them. Besides, Charlotte is notorious for DUI checks on New Year's and unless it is a by-the-hour motel occupied by a lice-infested crack whore I just paid for, I don't like spending the night in strange places.
But I will probably end up going anyway. Maybe for kicks, I wont get drunk and then weave home later that night.

I'm actually thinking about going to watch a movie tonight. If I don't do that, I'll probably just stay home and watch a DVD because I'm not up to do anything else.

My plans have changed and now I want to change them back. After a day of running errands I am too pooped to party. We are having dinner and drinks with friends followed by more drinks at my house after. Too late to back out now. What the hell was I thinking?

I did fuck all, because it's just another day.
I will say this, the London fireworks display was awesome.
When the clock struck 12, I never expected such a boom.
Can anyone say it was worth £1m($1.98m US)? That's up to you I guess.

Wow Stoney, that was awesome! I thought I was lucky because I can poke my head out of my window at 9pm every night and watch the ones from Disney is I felt like it but that was some show. I've never seen anything like it!

I've seen the Disney celebrations, which are rather enjoyable. But I live 5 miles from the embankment and I could see them go off and it just blew me away.

So what did everyone end up doing? I see CPL and SM already answered but...
I ended up staying with my friend who was going back to training this morning. It was kinda.... meh. His parents don't drink so they wouldn't let any alcohol into the house. I mean, not even a glass of champagne or anything. But, I went over there to see him off and I guess the night served its purpose.
The concert ended up being waaaay too much. My friend could only get me a 15% discount and that was too little so that went right out the window.
I got home at around 2-ish and went to bed. I got awoken this morning at 7am, to my mother telling me to get into the car because we were driving to Daytona (about an hour away) to go to my grandparents house and surprise them with breakfast. I got there, went right back to sleep, woke up and ate some hot wings (they're good anytime of the day!), went back to sleep and then watched the Twilight Zone marathon until we left.

We had high hopes of a copious night of bowling, but the alley near our house only had open bowling until 9. Our friends weren't due at the house until 7. That left us with not much time. We got 2 rounds and the barest couple of drinks in, and then we headed for my house. It was within walking distance (thankfully), but chasing a 3yo toddler down a darkened street is akin to a full blow boot camp exercise. I was sweaty and exhausted by the time we got back.
We got home about 9:45. We set off 30 bucks worth of crappy fireworks and then our friends left us. Mr. ZB passed out on the couch WELL before midnight. Dude was full-blown SNORING. I wrangled the 8yo out of bed to watch the ball drop. I got to kiss at least one cute fellow, even if it was only on the cheek. He razzed his dad this morning. "YOOOU weren't there to kiss mom, but I covered for you. She got to kiss MEEEEE instead!" He sounded so proud of that. It was adorable. A perfect start to a new year....
We just kind of lounged around all day today. Christmas left us broke, so there wasn't much else we could do. Not that I minded. I love spending time with my little dudes, even if it is "down-time."

Well, Mike and I went to dinner at a lovely Italian joint in town. After a couple glasses of merlot and a bit of food, we boxed the rest and continued on to the bar, where we were met by a group of friends. We drank and drank and drank some more. I had become annoyed by a man at the bar who was flipping Karl some shit (as if working on his birthday wasn't bad enough), so my dumb ass wandered out with a friend to smoke right before midnight. Totally missed it. Some friends left, new ones showed up, an older couple we know sent down a huge bottle of champagne and a bunch of glasses on account of our anniversary. We couldn't manage to finish the bottle before bar closing, but it was awesome anyway. Then we stumbled into a cab and went home.
Fun was had by all, except maybe Karl. But, the band announced his birthday and he raked in ridiculous tips, so it wasn't all bad. He spent last night at the bar and, because he was unsuccessful in coaxing us out (Mike and I both have to work today), he drug some random ass people back after the bars closed. Woke us up with Johnny Cash, kept us awake with Daddy Yankee. A chick and two guys, according to Mike, who had to use the restroom after being woken. The guys left circa 4:00AM, according to my estimation....and Karl got laid, apparently.
Everyone had a pretty good New Year, I'd say. :D

New Year's Eve the hubbie and I sat as usual at the dining room table, both messing on our laptops and smoking some pretty decent grass and hash. I was perusing the DD as usual, that and my poetry site. We intended to watch the ball drop, but dammit, we went into the living room and couldn't find the proper channel in time. My eleven year old comes bounding down the stairs, and was very pissed off that we missed it. Oooppsss. Hell, I thought she was watching the NYE celebration on the TV upstairs. Well, she cried, called her Dad, and I was the horrid mother of the New Year. lmao. Go figure.
