OKLAHOMA CITY -- A 15-year-old has been charged in connection with the killing of a pregnant woman in northeast Oklahoma City.

John M. Jones, 15, was booked Thursday into the Oklahoma County Jail and charged as an adult with two counts of murder in the death of Tina Thomas, 19. Thomas was found dead in a home at 1524 NE 14th St.

Police Sgt. Paco Balderrama said there were "obvious signs of trauma" to the woman.

In a news release from the Oklahoma City Police Department, investigators said they turned their eyes to Jones while interviewing other witnesses. However, Jones' mother says her son is innocent.

"My son didn't kill her. For real, and he's 15. You know what I'm saying? He's 15," said Tykisha Jones.

She said her son went to Thomas' house to sell the woman and her boyfriend, Tony Mitchell, a television. However, Mitchell wasn't at home, and so Jones used Thomas' cell phone to call him.

"He said he gave the phone to Tina and said, 'I'll be right back. I'm going to go get the TV,'" Jones said. "He said, 'Mama, when I left, Tina was alive.'"

However, police think differently, and investigators arrested the 15-year-old when he showed up at the house again.

Jones' mother said she thinks her son may know something about what happened and that, perhaps, he is waiting to tell Thomas' boyfriend.

This is my first attempt so I hope I'm doing it correctly.

So, what. An 8 year old possibly killed his dad. A 15 year old can't? Lady has some screws loose if she thinks her son can't commit a crime as heinous as this one. Like my mom says, these mothers are blind to what their children can do. They think their children are perfect. They can do no wrong.

What's also sad is why he's waiting to tell her boyfriend what happened. Don't tell me, did the bathtub kill her too, or maybe it was the sofa..wait, she's 19 that only works on babies!!

I am sure he didnt steal that either, cause 15 year old dont do that as well.

Its all co-ink-e-dink I tell you. You know what I'm saying?

I see they are charging him with the babys death as well, or thats what it looks like, there isnt many news storys about it on the web yet.

I don't think anyone wants to believe that their child is capable of murder. That's a pretty standard reaction to that sort of news.

her son may know something about what happened and that, perhaps, he is waiting to tell Thomas' boyfriend.
because I would never prove myself innocent until I told the boyfriend important info.

Maybe he wanted to tell the boyfriend so he could retaliate against the killer? I don't know, some gang stuff? Some people who live the "street life" (i don't know if that's the case), don't cooperate with police and prefer to handle justice themselves.

An Oklahoma City teenager has admitted he fatally shot a pregnant woman during a struggle over a TV at her house.

John Maurice Jones pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of second-degree murder in the Dec. 4 deaths of Shatina Thomas, 19, and her unborn child.

Jones was then 15. He turned 16 on Feb. 2. "During the struggle, my gun went off,” he said.

Under a plea agreement, Jones will be in the custody of the Office of Juvenile Affairs until he turns 18. If he completes a treatment plan there, he will serve 10 years in prison. If he doesn’t complete the plan, he must serve 15 years.

An accomplice, Tony Ray Polly, 14, of Oklahoma City, pleaded guilty to being an accessory to murder after the fact. He was ordered into the custody of the Office of Juvenile Affairs. Polly said he assisted Jones in hiding the gun and clothing.

Jones and Polly had faced two first-degree murder counts before reaching plea agreements. Oklahoma County District Judge Ray Elliott, who has been troubled by a series of recent plea deals in murder cases, said he was reluctantly approving the deals.
