In his apartment lay his girlfriend Jayne Zimet, 49. Sometime late Saturday night Castro told deputies he "snapped." The next thing he knew, Zimet was on the floor with his hands around her neck.
Castro's friend called deputies to Castro and Zimet's home after several calls from Castro. He told the dispatch officer that Castro was crying and wanted deputies to come.
Deputies arrived at the apartment and found Zimet, who appeared to be dead.
Castro and Zimet were dating for a year and had moved in together recently. Castro told deputies that Zimet had abused prescription drugs and was acting irrationally for the past three days because she hadn't bought any pills.
Castro said Zimet kept asking him to buy her pills. She threatened to spray him with bug spray. Castro left the apartment for awhile, then returned before midnight.
Castro told deputies he blacked out after realizing his hands were around Zimet's neck and her blood was on his hands.
Castro couldn't believe it was real. He told deputies he wanted to kill himself.
