http://i35.tinypic.com/fyg4n6.jpgAn 18-year-old man who was apparently denied entrance into a St. Bernard bar because he was too young, shot and killed the bar’s unofficial bouncers after enticing them outside.
Michael Whitehead, 51, and David Ward, 41, were shot and killed outside of Barracuda’s Bararound 6 p.m. Thursday.
Stephens said the suspect, 18-year-old Anthony Hookfin has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
According to Sheriff Jack Stephens, Hookfin tried to get into the bar when he was challenged by Ward and Whitehead, who served as the bar’s ‘unofficial bouncers.’
Stephens said Hookfin then went back to his car and got a gun and went back into the bar to try to get in but was stopped again.
At that point Hookfin told the men he had ID outside in his car and he asked them to follow him. When the three got outside, Hookfin began firing.
Whitehead died at the hospital, Ward was pronounced dead on the scene.
Hookfin is from New Orleans but has been living in St. Bernard Parish periodically since before Hurricane Katrina, after his mother was shot and wounded by his father who is now in prison. Hookfin only has minor arrests in his past, police said.
Hookfin was found hiding in the bedroom of a girlfriend.
After denying being the shooter, he admitted under questioning he shot the victims and made a taped confession. He told police he felt threatened by the men at the bar.
