Angela and her toddler son were leaving a park in Port Charlotte, FL when a man approached her in the parking lot, holding a knife. The attacker told her not to make any sudden moves or noises. She didn't have to though...suddenly a stray 65 pound Pit Bull came out of nowhere and charged the man with teeth bared, growling...the attacker fled the scene.
Angela didn't know the dog, had never seen him before. She hurriedly put her son in the car and tried to speed off. However; the Pit Bull jumped into the back seat too. There the now mild mannered dog waited with Angela and her son until police and animal control arrived.
Animal control stated that they do not believe the dog is a stray due to it's being quite sleek and healthy, obviously well cared for, and his mild temperment.
Angela has stated that, if no one claims the dog, her family will adopt him. They have already named him Angel because, as Angela said, He's truly a guardian angel.

I hope people will see that this is their normal behavior, and eating babies is just something they do on the side.

I really don't understand why anyone would leave a baby alone with any dog. Babies make noises like squeaky toys. A baby on a swing looks like an action toy to a dog, the kind they usually get praised for "catching". Dogs do NOT understand that you can't "play" with the baby, the baby is NOT an action toy, a chew toy....
They learn that through a LOT of being around you AND the baby, through the clear setting of limits by you and your example. Leaving a dog and a baby alone is a good recipe for a bad outcome.

Awwww. I loved that story! Both those dogs look like mine. Pitbulls are so comical, full of personality and love kids (at least the ones I have owned). Nice to see a story that wasn't about a child getting mauled by a dog.

I love to read these kind of stories. Pit Bulls are not bad. The ones that are were raised to be that way. Any dog can be mean if they are taught to be that way. It dosn't matter what breed they are.

I hold nothing personal against pits, but I would be hesitant to bring a dog into my home that attacked someone. The dog had no territorial interest in this woman and her son. What happens when mom and dad have an argument and the dog thinks someone is threatening?
I applaud the dog but wouldn't have it in my house. I would have a pit that I raised and was very familiar with the dynamics of my home.

I look at it as divine intervention. I really DID have a large German Shepherd who appeared one time when I was in trouble. I would have kept him. But he actually (seriously) disappeared around a corner after walking me home. I couldn't find him.
I'd take the Pitbull home.

So love this story! I want that dog....and I'm not a fan of pit bulls!
Goes to show man's best friend regardless of breed, often surpass humans in humanity.

Dakota, all my dogs are here because they bit someone & neither myself nor my kids have been bitten. as far as arguing with dh, having dogs like this around keeps the peace. they are all very protective of me so he argues quietly. the house is fairly drama-free. i'm the only one yelling & it's usually at the dogs but i'm the alpha so i can do whatever i want. :tongue2:

i've seen this one before & from a different angle. it's actually a bull terrier, like the Target dogs, not a pit. from the same family tho!

I just am not versed in the ways of a dog that has bitten and wouldn't want to learn with my kidlets. It is truly a special talent/vocation.
Also, the circumstances of why they bit would play into it for me - in this article it seems protective, but as I said - I would worry if hubby yelled at me he would be on the receiving end of the next bite. (hmmm, on second thought...)

No dog should be left alone with an infant. It may just be playing but a small infant plus 50 pounds of puppy... bad combo.

you are absolutely right & i totally agree with you. i've had K-9 cops blanche at coming into my house. from the outside, it looks like madness, but somehow, it usually stays in control. the only thing these guys do is get between us if dh yells & push him back but he has been bitten for other reasons having nothing to do with me & it's usually been his fault & he admits it. the kids don't have problems, but when they were small, i never left them alone with any of my dogs, not even my Charlie.

Oh, the porcupine was o.k.
They removed 1347 quills from this dog (give or take a few)....
Porcupines have between 15,000 to 30,000 quills, and they regenerate
This must be an especially dumb dog...didn't give up easy

The woman whom he saved reneged on adopting Angel. She left him at the shelter to be euthanized. So rescuers in Florida cooperated with rescuers in Minneapolis, MN and he was moved to Midwest Animal Rescue Services in Minneapolis. He cn be seen on this website: http://midwestanimalrescue.org
He should be up for adoption soon but, right now he is being treated for heartworm disease. I'd like to put his pic up but it is on a slideshow video, not a still, and I can't figure out how to transfer it.
He's the happy brown bullie with the frriendly face and floppy ears
I do so pray that he gets a forever home.
It's awful that woman in Florida told the press that she was going to adopt him and then didn't. If she had simply stated that she was grateful but could NOT adopt him then I am certain that someone else would have wanted to gie him a good home.
Well, God does NOT like ugly so I know that this will come back to bite her in the ass, so to speak.

She may have been in the midst of abundant joy and later re-thought her position. I don't see anything wrong with that.
At least she didn't take him into her home and then just turn him loose or use him for target practice.

She left him to DIE!!!! Not like she couldn't at least stated that she was NOT going to adopt him. She didn't even make a few phone calls to try to find a no kill shelter. He probably saved her life and that of her toddler son and she left him to die! Ungrateful bitch!
I am actually online e-mailing EVERY Pit rescue group out there to try to find the dog a forever home, or even a good foster home...and the dog didn't even save my fucking life...this bitch couldn't even be bothered to do that???

My sister-in-law recently took one of the dogs that folks seem to like to drop off in the rural areas. It was the 9th time this has happened to us and we are running out of friends to give them to. Only when I started telling everyone that I was going to have to put him down did she step up.
This was after over 10 calls to local adoption agencies. NONE would take him. In fact, we have never been able to get one to take any of the cats or dogs we've "inherited". The local humane society only takes animals from the pound and then only the ones they feel confident can be adopted - all otheres are euthanized. He was a mutt of no folorn breed and the "catch-all" rescues are always overloaded.
You have no clue who this woman did or didn't call. She took him to a shelter - possibly in hopes he would be adopted. But if he wasn't a "famous dog", would the FL rescue have gotten involved? If so, then maybe that is what she hoped for. Many non-pet owners are not even aware of rescue organizations and rescues are not always available or are already overloaded.

The "Bully Breed", if they feel pain, one can't really tell. My dog got hit by a car (crazy bully trying to bite the tires) and the hospital suggested, my family suggested, everyone that I put him down. When I went to the hospital to see him, I just could not put him down. He was beat up looking, but sure didn't act like it. He tried to get up to give me lovin' and everything without a wimper. I'm so happy I didn't put him down he was the best pet I ever had.

I have a pretty good clue that she didn't even call. She didn't take him to the shelter. Animal control arrived at the scene and did so.
And, if an animal had just saved my life and the life of MY child...I would do EVERYTHING humanly possible to repay the favor.
In the glare of publicity she STATED that she WAS going to adopt the dog. So a LOT of rescue groups and people assumed that she would or was going to. Thus; there was an assumption that he was safely taken care of. If it had been KNOWN that she was NOT going to adopt him, a LOT of other people would have been looking into rescuing him. Yet, if the rescue workers in Florida had NOT actually checked on him, he would be DEAD NOW....
And, NO I do NOT think that this SELFISH bitch even made one phone call. She's the type that likes to look good for the media but really could not give a damn if that sweet dog, who could have given his LIFE to save her AND her baby, lived or died.
I know the type. The same type who get a cute puppy or kitten "for the kids" and dump it when it's no longer "cute" or "little". Selfish, selfish to the fucking CORE...the Casey Anthonys of this world. THAT type.
P.S. I've had as many as 26 dogs at the same time....animal rescue

Selfish, selfish to the fucking CORE...the Casey Anthonys of this world. THAT type.I am well aware of that type - they dump them in our area. I don't do rescue and have never placed a dog or cat for rescue and NOT for lack of trying. If I call animal control - they end up at the pound and if Adopt-a-Pet or Humane Society or other rescue doesn't take them, they are euthanized. That is the only option as none will take them directly from me.
I love pets and have had many but I am not a rescue. Even if she had NOT said she would take it, it would have likely gone to the pound first. Obviously the dog's plight was recognized but if this dog had not had the media, I have little doubt he would not have had such a happy ending.
If anyone deserves the fault, it is whoever was the original owner.

They always are....Previously I raised and loved a bullmastiff...now I am a proud mother to two (2) mastiff/shepherd/pit mixes....at 10 months old and over 100 pds, they are amazing, fun and crazy (brothers). They are everything you have described, and raised properly are the most amazing animals to love and live with.
