Audra Tatum said her husband repeatedly told her to not put her feet up while "relaxing" in the passenger seat in case she "was in a wreck someday," but she just told him she would eventually.
In August 2015, the couple were struck by a truck in Georgia and while her husband walked away with minor scrapes, Ms Tatum's legs suffered extensive damage, CBS News reported.
"The airbag went off, throwing my foot up and breaking my nose," she said. "I was looking at the bottom of my foot facing up at me."
The mother-of-two had to learn to walk again after breaking her ankle, femur and arm.

"Basically my whole right side was broken, and it's simply because of my ignorance," Tatum said. "I'm not Superman. I couldn't put my foot down in time."
A local fire department has tried to help Ms Tatum spread awareness, telling the public airbags could send a person's knees through their eyes in a crash if their feet are on the dashboard.
