Willa Blanc & Louis Wilkinson were behind the disappearance of Walter Sartory

Story-24.jpg
Police say a mother and son kidnapped the senior citizen, before burning his body.

Walter Sartory disappeared more than three weeks ago from his Hebron, KY home.

Police now believe they have found his body in a rural area of Morgan County, Indiana.

Investigators say a mother and son are behind Sartory's death. 47-year-old Willa Blanc of Union, Ky is charged with kidnapping, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse.

Her son, 27-year-old, Louis Wilkinson is also facing the same charges, plus exploitation of an adult.

Police believe Blanc helped Sartory clean his home before she and her son took hundreds of thousands of dollars from him.

Boone County Sheriff's spokesman Tom Scheben says after speaking with Blanc, they had a good idea where to find Sartory.

Investigators found what they believe to be Sartory's body, burned and scattered in different areas.

Because of the condition of the remains, it could be a few days before they can prove it is Sartory.

Pffft I want to smack those smiles right off there faces. Maybe, they will have a burning for them way they are in prison. Here's hoping.

That's just messed up. I hate it when these assholes smile in their mugshots. Bet they won't be smiling for long.

Keep smiling turd's. None of the money you stole from the old man you murdered will be of any help to you in prison.

Authorities near Indianapolis believe they have found the skeletal remains of a missing Kentucky man.

Boone County Sheriff's Deputies say 73-year-old Walter Sartory went missing from his Hebron home more than two-weeks ago.

"It's likely he was killed before anyone even knew he was gone," said sheriff's deputies.

On Saturday, Willa Blanc, 47, was charged with kidnapping Sartory, stealing more than $200,000 from him and trying to take more than $1 million from his investment account. Blanc and her son, Louis Wilkinson, 27, both of Union, are also charged with abusing a corpse and tampering with physical evidence.

At this time Boone County deputies say they won't file murder charges until they are sure the remains are Sartory's. And, if they are, they also must determine how and where he died.

Investigators say Willa Blanc got to know Walter Sartory well enough through her cleaning business to take advantage of him financially.

Sartory, who suffered from mental illness, was described as a "reclusive millionaire" who lived in a modest home, was first reported missing Feb. 26.

According to neighbors, he lived alone and kept to himself, but often talked to a friend in Virginia who called deputies after not being able to reach Sartory.

The mother and son are awaiting extradition to Kentucky, and investigators say more charges could be filed. And are looking into the possibility these two could be behind similar crimes.

I went camping over the weekend and while sitting around the camp fire other people were talking about this story. I thought it was fake but I found this information. I will find more on this.

A former cleaning lady admitted Thursday that she kidnapped a reclusive Hebron millionaire nearly three years ago in hopes of getting the elderly man’s money.

Willa Blanc, 50, pleaded guilty to nine charges in Boone Circuit Court on Thursday including not releasing Walter Sartory alive, burning his body and raiding his bank and investment accounts.

She will receive life in prison when Judge Tony Frohlich sentences her next month.

In March 2009, 73-year-old Sartory’s burned body was found in an Indiana field two weeks after the retired scientist was reported missing. Sartory, who suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and had severe social phobia, had told friends in the weeks before his disappearance that he was suspicious of Blanc whom he met when she cleaned a neighbor’s home nearly a year earlier.

Blanc's son Louis Wilkinson, 30, who also faces murder and kidnapping charges in the case, is set to stand trial next month.

However, as part of her plea Blanc agreed to give investigators a full account of what happened to Sartory in February and March 2009. After that, prosecutors will decide how to proceed in Wilkinson's case.

Deputies and prosecutors said that the pair held Sartory drugged and duct taped in the basement of their Union home for about a week in February 2009. When the man died, Blanc and Wilkinson drove his body to Indiana where they told friends they needed to burn a dead dog, police said.

While he was being held, Blanc raided Sartory’s bank and investment accounts.

Sartory, a scientist who had retired from a job at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee was worth millions of dollars, according to court records. Blanc spent $210,000 and had access to a Fidelity account with $1.3 million, investigators said.

Investigators said Blanc had a power of attorney for Sartory that was supposedly signed Feb. 18. Deputies also found a trust agreement supposedly signed by Sartory on Feb. 24 that gave Blanc 60 percent of his assets in the event of his death.

When Sartory disappeared, Blanc’s $290,000 home was being foreclosed on and she owed property taxes. On March 6, Willa Blanc paid $3,600 in property taxes due on the house.

Louis Wilkinson pleads guilty

Soon after his arrest for kidnapping a 73-year-old Hebron millionaire, Louis Wilkinson told sheriff’s deputies that he was tired of his mother controlling his life.

The 27-year-old called himself a “a slave of his mother.â€￾

Three years later as he stood before Judge Tony Frohlich Tuesday and admitted to helping his mother kidnap Walter Sartory, hold him in their basement, then burn his body in an Indiana field, Wilkinson was finally liberated, his family said.

“He’s set free now, because he’s been all these years with his mom,â€￾ said Wilkinson’s aunt Louisa Wilkinson-Smith of Price Hill. “He’s been set free.â€￾

Wilkinson, 30, faced seven counts including murder, kidnapping, abuse of a corpse and exploitation of an adult. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors agreed to drop the murder charge.

Commonwealth's Attorney Linda Tally Smith recommended Wilkinson serve 30 years in prison, however Wilkinson's attorneys will argue for a 20-year sentence when he is sentenced in May.

Under state law, the minimum sentence for a kidnapping in which the victim was not released alive is 20 years. The maximum penalty is death, however prosecutors were not seeking the death penalty.
[...]

Last month Wilkinson rejected a plea deal offered by prosecutors and told the judge he wanted a trial.

“We reached an agreement that will allow our side to be heard,â€￾ said Heather Crabbe, Wilkinson’s public defender. At the sentencing hearing, Crabbe and Keith Morgan plan to present testimony about Wilkinson’s upbringing and what they say Blanc forced Wilkinson to do in relation to the kidnapping and death.

Smith said that while Wilkinson was heavily influenced by his mother, that does not excuse his actions.

“The Commonwealth’s position has been and always will be, that regardless of what those circumstances were it doesn’t negate his responsibility to alter what happened over the two and half to three week period of time this went on,â€￾ Smith said.

Detectives plan to testify at the sentencing hearing that Wilkinson was not completely controlled by his mother, Smith said.

“There’s a difference in being dependent and being controlled,â€￾ she said. For example, she said, while his mother cleaned houses, Wilkinson would play on a laptop. “That doesn’t sound like a person who is so dominated by their mother that they had no choice but to act.â€￾

But Wilkinson’s aunt has little doubt who is to blame for Sartory’s death.

“His mom was responsible, he had no choice,â€￾ said Wilkinson-Smith, who attended Tuesday’s hearing with another of Wilkinson’s aunts, an uncle and his father, Louis Wilkinson, Sr.

His father did not want to comment.

Wilkinson-Smith said her nephew spent time in foster care as a child then came to live with her for abut six years until 2005 when he went back to his mother.
[...]

Wilkinson had been cooperating with deputies until his mother told her public defenders that her son was of “low mental functioningâ€￾ and would not know to ask for an attorney.

Despite his mother's claim Wilkinson scored an average of 102 on IQ tests, which is average, when he was evaluated at the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center.

Though he was found competent to stand trial, a state psychiatrist diagnosed Wilkinson with a personality disorder, with narcissistic and dependent traits.

Wilkinson told staff that he had never been able to live on his own and always relied on family members for financial and emotional support.

If Wilkinson is sentenced to 30 years, he would eligible for parole after about 17 years because. He will get credit for the three years he spent in jail awaiting trial. If he is sentenced to 20 years he would eligible for parole after 14 years.

Smith said prosecutors will oppose any early release or parole.

Wow. Women like Willa Blanc scare me. It's like that Sante Kimes lady how she controlled and manipulated her son into doing whatever she wanted. Its like they emasculate their sons to the point where they will do whatever they want. It goes way beyond brow beating and it's no wonder that females like this aren't married and can't have healthy social and love lives.

I'm not surprised her son has narcissistic personality disorder he got that from his mom and she put him in the position of being continually dependent upon him. Emotionally and for his monetary needs as well. It was what she wanted someone she could control and manipulate to do her evill deeds.

Ugh can someone hand this bitch a rope when she gets to jail. Oh and I'm not taking up for her son I'm just saying that had he been raised in a normal healthy environment I doubt he'd turn out the way he did.

Poor old guy, guess he kind of had an idea that they werent to be trusted, why do people always think they can kill someone and take over their money? They always get caught, always get life in prison and I always wonder if it was worth it to them to take someones life over money they only get the use of for a few days... Guess the Mom had "low mental functioning" as well...
