Two men and a woman have been arrested after being accused of strangling their friend who was dying of an overdose - and putting a hat and sunglasses on him to make it appear that he was still alive.

Preston Layfield, 19, Tyler Mirabelli, 22, and Amanda Wayda, 20, - all from Shickshinny, Pennsylvania - have been charged over the death of 21-year-old Joshua Rose.

State police allege that Rose apparently suffered an overdose Thursday at a home in Scranton, and the three drove him on Interstate 81 to Susquehanna County, passing at least one hospital on the way rather than seeking medical aid.

Police allege that a plastic bag was placed over the victim's head along the way and he was strangled with a pair of jumper cables, then dumped over an embankment in the Hop Bottom area, where his body was later found near railroad tracks.

Before a stop for gasoline after the alleged strangulation, one member of the group put sunglasses and a hat on the victim, authorities alleged.

With people named Preston, Tyler, and Amanda in the mix, this guy never stood a chance to begin with.

When you agree high and strung out, even the worst ideas seem reasonable. 3 people had to agree to that outcome for Joshua. Prison is going to clear it up for them. 4 lives wasted.

SHICKSHINNY, PA – Police have two men and one woman in custody after they were accused of strangling their friend who was dying of an overdose, then dumped his body in the woods.

According to reports, 21-year-old Joshua Rose accidentally overdosed while doing drugs at the home where 20-year-old Amanda Wayda and 19-year-old Preston Layfield were present.

Instead of calling 911, Wayda called 22-year-old Tyler Mirabelli and asked him to come over and take Rose to the hospital. So far, so good right?

But while in the car the three came up with a different plan. Driving past the hospital, Wayda allegedly put a plastic bag over Rose’s head before Layfield strangled Rose to death with a set of jumper cables.

It took around four minutes for Rose to finally die, but once he did the trio stopped for gas – but not before putting glasses and a hat on Rose to make him look alive. Afterwards, the three are accused of dumping Rose’s body in the woods near some railroad tracks.

There’s not a lot of details on how police were alerted to Rose’s murder, but one report says it was Wayda who called to report she had witnessed Layfield murder Rose. It wasn’t until police questioned Layfield that he informed them that Wayda was the one who put a bag over the victim’s head, then handed him the jumper cables while telling him he “needed to do this.”

All three have been arrested and charged with aggravated assault and conspiracy. The Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office said the charges will probably be upgraded after an autopsy was completed.

Three friends face long prison terms for the bizarre murder of their friend Joshua Rose

The judge called this case "mind-boggling" and one of the most bizarre set of facts he's ever seen in a murder case -- three people strangling a friend whom they thought was overdosing on opiates, then driving for miles with his dead body before dumping it over an embankment in Susquehanna County.

Preston Layfield, Tyler Mirabelli, and Amanda Wayda got into a truck in August of 2016 with their friend Joshua Rose whom they thought was having an overdose.

What exactly happened next only these three know for sure.

Joshua Rose, 21, was killed, investigators say, by being strangled with jumper cables in the back of that truck.
Tyler Mirabelli was the driver of the truck. He was sentenced to 20 to 40 years in prison.

Preston Layfield is the one who strangled Rose with the jumper cables, he also received 20 to 40 years.

Amanda Wayda was sentenced to 15 to 40 years. Wayda was Rose's ex-girlfriend.

Seven of Joshua's family members spoke at the sentencing, many of them reminding the defendants that Rose's 3-year-old son will never know his father.
