Victim’s Mother Among 12 Charged In 13YO’s Assault In New London

New London police say the mother and aunt of a 13-year-old assault victim join 10 juveniles being charged with organizing and executing the assault.

Police said they started investigating the assault when they received video circulating on social media back on April 30 showing a juvenile girl being assaulted by a family member and the victim’s boyfriend.

The victim’s aunt- Keosha Muriel, 29- and a group of ten juveniles were seen on video either assaulting the victim or observing the assault “over an extended period of time.”

Police said the victim’s mother- Idinah Muriel, 32- was also on scene and was found to have been involved in its planning.

Ten juveniles spanning the age of 12 to 15 were summoned to appear in juvenile court, according to police.

The juveniles face a variety of charges, including risk of injury to a minor, first-degree unlawful restraint, fourth-degree sexual assault, second-degree strangulation, and more.

The aunt, Keosha Muriel, was charged with cruelty to persons, risk of injury, third-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace, first-degree unlawful restraint, and second-degree reckless endangerment.

The mother, Idinah Muriel, was charged with cruelty to persons, risk of injury, second-degree reckless endangerment, conspiracy of assault, second-degree conspiracy of BOP, and first-degree conspiracy of unlawful restraint.

The court needs to put the fear of God into these juveniles.

They are going to start shitting out children they will probably end up abusing and torturing like this.

One video, police said, shows Keosha Muriel pulling the victim from a car and telling the girl to apologize to Idinah Muriel. Keosha Muriel then begins striking the girl with a phone charger cable, taunting her and watching as the gathered juveniles violently pull the victim from the car, police said.

At one point, two juveniles pin the victim to the ground while she can be heard saying “get off me,” the arrest warrant states. One juvenile places a knee on the girl’s throat, police said, and when she tells them she cannot breathe, they mock her by saying “George Floyd.” One juvenile spits on the victim’s face and others try to rip out the victim’s eyelashes and later pour water in the victim’s face to “water board” her, making her cry and scream.

Police said another video shows two juveniles punching and “forcefully attacking” the victim in a car with Keosha and Idinah Muriel seated in the front seat..."

Found a little more on the abuse, the girl says this is her daily life.

A group of 10 juveniles, between the ages of 12 and 15, gathered for the assault in a parking lot, cops said. Investigators viewed several videos of the beating and identified two main juvenile suspects.

The two suspects pinned the victim to the ground while one rubbed his genital area on her face, according to police.

After that, one suspect kneeled on the victim’s neck, and the girl wheezed that she couldn’t breathe, investigators said. In response, the surrounding teens mocked her and called her “George Floyd.”

The suspects then spit in the victim’s face and poured water on her head in an improvised attempt to waterboard her, according to police.

During the entire incident, the adult Muriel sisters stood by and laughed or encouraged the juveniles to keep up the assault, authorities said. Police began investigating after the videos were spotted by adults at Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School on April 30.

An officer said he spoke to the victim’s mother, Idinah Muriel, later that day, and she told him she wanted her daughter to be humiliated and paid the 10 juveniles $50 each to “beat the juvenile victim’s a–,” according to the warrant affidavit.

The victim later spoke with police and said such beatings were just “her life every day,” according to the affidavit. Police called the state’s Department of Children and Families to take custody of the victim.
