I followed the links and the daughter says that she met Lake at a homeless shelter after her parents kicked her out and before the shooting her parents never met him. She goes on to say that her father walked up to Lake, introduced himself as her father and started shooting.

Just found that odd because I would have put money on hearing that they shot Lake because he had hurt their daughter which is hard to allege given what their daughter has said.

those parents look inbred

I can't even imagine the tight level of control this teen must have been living under in this house, before she left. She gets a taste of freedom and her parents show her that nope, she can't make her own choices--they will control everything, even if someone will live or die.

Getting thrown out was probably the greatest highlight of her life, then the parental units had to mess up her sense of security & freedom by murdering the best thing she's ever had. Goddamned control freaks.
Fry 'em.

I'm going to guess her parents sent her to live at the homeless shelter as punishment and control.
She met a guy there and they started making life plans.

Parents weren't happy because they lost control.

Rest in peace, Jeremy Lake.

when you htink about everything comes down to CONTROL or the loss of it.

you kick your daughter out of the house, making her homeless. She meets another homeless teen, at a shelter for homeless that she has to stay at. They become involved maybe romantically, meeting him for the first time, they kill him. They should have shot themselves, the selfish control freaks. Time to meet your maker, dumb ass!

A white former police officer in Oklahoma has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the fatal off-duty shooting of his daughter's black boyfriend.

Former Tulsa officer Shannon Kepler was convicted last month of first-degree manslaughter in the 2014 slaying of 19-year-old Jeremey Lake.

His sentencing comes after four trials spanning nearly a year, including three that resulted in hung juries.

Tulsa County District Court Judge Sharon Holmes also issued Kepler with a $15,000 fine during his sentencing on Monday.

Kepler's lawyers said the 24-year police veteran was trying to protect his daughter because she had run away from home and was living in a crime-ridden neighborhood.

The officer, who retired from the force after he was charged, told investigators that Lake was armed and that he shot him in self-defense.

Police never found a weapon on Lake or at the scene, and several neighbors testified that they didn't see a gun either.

Lisa Kepler was 18 years old when she met Lake while he was volunteering at a homeless shelter where she was staying.

She told the court her parents dropped her off at the shelter in July 2014 after she had been sneaking out at night and acting out.

After a few weeks, Lake offered her a place to stay at the home he shared with his aunt, she testified.

Lisa said on the day of the shooting, she and Lake were passing out water bottles to the homeless before walking back to his aunt's home. She testified that she noticed her father's SUV parked out front and that he started asking her questions.

She told the court her father asked what she was doing in the neighborhood, but she couldn't remember how she responded.

Lake's aunt said her nephew was reaching out to shake Kepler's hand to introduce himself when Kepler fired his weapon.

Welcome to 2017!! Just 3 years later and the opening of the article goes from: Two Tulsa police officers are behind bars for the murder of a 19-year-old man Tuesday night.
to:

Always great to see the media Race baiting.

I can see how this shooting went down. When dumbass dad found his daughter (who was still angry and upset with him) and asked her what she was doing there, she says she can't remember, I believe she can, but won't admit to it. She wanted to piss him off and she knows that he is a racist, so she says something like "You want to know what I'm doing here? I getting some big black dick all night long, that's what I'm doing here!" and her dad couldn't handle it. I believe poor Jeremy paid the price of a racist father and a vindictive daughter.

Is the wife stilling getting charged?

Since he was found guilty, he loses his retirement correct?

Sounds like the govt wins again, anyone else did this theyd be facing a lot more than 15 years. Sickening.

After six hours of deliberation, a federal jury found Shannon Kepler guilty of murdering 19-year-old Jeremey Lake and for firing at Lake’s younger brother on August 5, 2014. At the time of the murder, Kepler was a 24-year veteran of the Tulsa Police Department.

Shannon Kepler, 60, was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals moments after the verdict.

“Today, Shannon Kepler was found guilty of using and discharging a firearm in the second degree murder of Jeremey Lake and for assaulting Lake’s brother with a firearm in Indian Country after his previous state conviction was dismissed as a result of the U.S. Supreme Court’s McGirt decision. I am thankful for today’s verdict, and the jury is to be commended for their service,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson. “I’m extremely proud of the FBI and Tulsa Police Department as well as Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ross Lenhardt and Sean Taylor for their tireless preparation and successful prosecution of Mr. Kepler in federal court.”

Jury selection occurred on Monday, April 19, before U.S. District Judge Gregory K. Frizzell, followed by opening statements and testimony starting April 20. In his opening, Assistant U.S. Attorney Ross Lenhardt set the scene. Shannon Kepler and his wife were having a difficult time with their adopted daughter, Lisa. The behavior continued, and the Keplers eventually dropped her off at a homeless shelter shortly after she turned 18. Kepler provided her with no clothing—other than what she was wearing, no money, no cell phone, and no credit cards.

Days after dropping her off, Kepler logged into Lisa’s Facebook page and saw she was suddenly “in a relationship” with Jeremey Lake. Kepler’s attorney stated that Kepler was “alarmed” with what he saw on Lake’s Facebook page, and, while still at work, Kepler requested a records clerk to run a search on Lake’s history. Kepler learned that Lake was the victim of child abuse at a very young age and was previously charged as a juvenile after pushing a social services worker. Those charges did not result in a conviction.

Kepler then copied down Lake’s last known address—202 North Maybelle Avenue—on the printed arrest and booking sheet involving Lake. Later, Kepler changed clothes, waited until dark, retrieved his .357 magnum revolver, and drove his wife’s dark SUV to the home where Lake was staying. Kepler testified that he knew the revolver would not leave shell casings at the scene. Kepler arrived at approximately 9 pm and saw his daughter and Lake walking together. He tried to talk to his daughter, but she rebuffed him and started walking toward the home. As Lake stood in the street, Kepler pulled his revolver and shot Jeremey Lake twice, quickly causing his death. Kepler then turned and fired at least three more rounds in the direction of the witnesses—Lake’s friend Josh Mills, Lake’s 13-year-old brother Michael Hamilton, and Kepler’s own daughter, Lisa. Hamilton was sitting on the home’s front porch at the time and was slightly injured during the shooting. Kepler then fled the scene, testifying that he knew his fellow Tulsa police officers would be hunting for him, his vehicle, and his weapon. He abandoned the SUV at a former Motel 6 just off the Broken Arrow Expressway and eventually turned himself in. Approximately 14 hours after the shooting, his former attorney brought the still-loaded murder weapon into the Tulsa Police Station in a zip lock bag.

When testifying, Kepler claimed that, although no gun was ever found at the scene, he shot Lake in self-defense after Lake “got the jump on him,” pulling a shiny, semi-automatic pistol from his pants pocket. While Kepler’s attorney argued that a gun found in the Tulsa Police Department several days later “could” have been taken from the scene, expert and forensic evidence proved that the two incidents were unrelated.

The prosecution proved that Kepler had not only heard about the unrelated gun, but that he had also been provided with police reports and photographs of it before ever testifying.

In his closing statement, Lenhardt reviewed the charges and critical evidence that supported a finding of guilty on each count. The prosecution asked the jury to conclude that although Kepler alleged that he went to 202 North Maybelle to confront his daughter, he actually went there to confront Lake. The evidence proved that once there, Kepler shot Lake twice, and then began shooting at the witnesses that were present.

Kepler appealed his October 2017 state manslaughter conviction on grounds that his case should have been tried in federal court based on the McGirt v. Oklahoma U.S. Supreme Court ruling since he was a citizen of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and the shooting took place on the nation’s Reservation.

A former Tulsa police officer who used department records to run a background search on his daughter's new boyfriend and then sought out and shot him dead was sentenced to 25 years in jail for the 2014 murder.

Shannon Kepler, who served 24 years on the city's police force, also was ordered to pay the cost of a grave marker for his victim, 19-year-old Jeremey Lake.

Kepler and his wife were "having a difficult time" with their adopted daughter, Lisa, and responded by leaving her at a homeless shelter shortly after she turned 18 with no money, cell phone, credit cards or clothes other than what she wore, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma.

Days later, Kepler was "alarmed" when he logged onto his daughter's Facebook account and discovered she had changed her status to being "in a relationship" with Lake, whose family said he was a volunteer at the shelter, according to the U.S. Attorney's statement.

While still on the job, Kepler then asked a records clerk to use police databases to gather information on Lake and printed out police reports about him.
Lake's father, who spoke at the sentencing, and other family members who submitted letters to the court, emphasized "Jeremey never had the chance to grow into the man he had hoped to become for his unborn child," reported the U.S. Attorney's Office. "They explained that prior to his death, Jeremey found a steady residence and intended to go to welding school. They also spoke about his selflessness and willingness to help others, as evidenced by his volunteer work at the homeless shelter.

Johnson's statement said: "Kepler, at the time, was sworn to uphold the law but instead made a series of decisions that led to the young man's murder. Today's 25-year sentence provides a measure of justice to Mr. Lake's family, though I know their healing continues."
