Former linebacker at Winter Springs High School is now a registered sex offender and serving 10 years of probation after pleading no contest to raping a girl near campus in 2014.
Josea Sims, of Sanford, was one of five team members who were charged with the gang rape of a 16-year-old girl, also a Winter Springs High student.
On March 22 he pleaded no contest to rape – a lesser charge than gang rape – was placed on sex-offender probation and was formally designated a sex offender.
Several of the players told police that the sex was consensual, but the victim recorded part of what happened on an iPod. “The males are circling her and appear to be trying to intimidate her into performing the acts and trying to keep her from leaving,” according a Winter Springs police report.
On the recording, the victim can be heard to say “No,” 21 times, according to the State Attorney’s Office in Seminole County.
Sims, the defendant who pleaded no contest, told police that the girl performed oral sex on him and the other four. He also said the girl said, “No,” but was laughing at the same time.
