I was going to say a relative, but the dude was latino.

I'm thinking someone who worked on the property or in the housing development, maybe someone the couple was trying to help out.

15 year age difference between the two, wonder if this guy came into his fortune late in life. It's pretty much the duty of any filthy rich elderly man to use his wealth to land some youthful, sexy, gold digging poon. Weird he'd go older.

I hope they catch the pig that did this to this couple who did not deserve this. Hopefully with an elite community such as this one, there is video footage of him at several locations of the neighborhood and the victims home.

Terrible. wonder if anything was stolen? Or was the person hired, an inside job. Also has anyone heard anything about the georgia couple killed and the husband beheaded? havent heard anything in a long time.

Source Claims Slain La Verne Couple Received Threats Before Deaths

LA VERNE (CBSLA.com) — A source with close ties to the family of Armie and Shirley Isom claims the slain couple received threats just weeks before their deaths.

The unidentified source told KCAL9’s Tom Wait the threats allegedly came from other relatives who wanted a piece of the Isoms’ fortune.

The pair was found unresponsive by a groundskeeper on Dec. 26 in their large hilltop home in a gated community in the 300 block of Roughrider Road.

Armie Isom, 89, had a construction company and was a very successful real estate investor. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition and later died.

His 74-year-old wife was pronounced dead at the home. Both had sustained blunt force trauma and had been beaten and stabbed.

Newly obtained court documents obtained by CBS2 also show that the family was fending off multiple lawsuits from a former in-law.

Police have not named any suspects in the crime but are continuing to review evidence found and collected at the scene. A motive for the killings was also unknown.

family or those claiming family ties are the first to investigate in murders like this imo, and that was the first thing I thought of in this case: money from murdered relatives

The guy is long gone, but the person who hired him probably lives nearby.

Lawsuit lady is not the killer unless she is fucking ENTIRELY idiotic as well as crazy-- I mean a lawsuit is pretty public indication of conflict and strife between individuals. Someone else wanted him gone and was hoping the conflict with the first relative would distract everyone.

I'm not sure about hired killings and blunt force trauma. I always thought they went in more for gunplay and garroting, but that could be too many movies talking.

Yeah def a relative.

The guy could be a boyfriend/friend/husband rather then merely some random hired hitman shithead.

Sketch released of suspect connected to murder of La Verne elderly couple

la-verne-homicides-8001.jpg

Los Angeles Sheriff's Department investigators released a composite sketch of a suspect connected to the brutal murder of an elderly couple in La Verne.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic or white man in his late 20s or early 30s. He is between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall and was wearing a dark hooded jacket, an outer garment and blue denim pants.

The incident happened shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 26 in the 300 block of Roughrider Road. A groundskeeper discovered the couple, who were identified as 74-year-old Shirley Isom and her husband 89-year-old Armie Troy Isom.

Shirley Isom was found beaten to death and her husband was found badly beaten and stabbed to death, according to authorities. The murders took place near the front door of the couple's home.

Neighbors said they saw a man they had never seen before wandering around the area shortly before the bodies were discovered.

Because the couple resided on a 100-acre property, it took investigators three days to comb through the property for evidence.

"All I can say is that the scene provides us a glimpse of what occurred. It was a very brutal attack. I think it's safe to say it was most likely a blitz attack at the front door of their home," LASD Lt. Dave Coleman said. "It appears that the assault occurred at the front door or inside and after that the detectives are analyzing the physical evidence, the blood evidence, everything there, and right now we really don't have a motive for the attack."

Investigators are not sure if there are other suspects involved in the case, but the composite sketch is the best lead they have right now.

Anyone with more information is asked to contact "Crime Stoppers" at (800) 222-8477.

I hate shit like this. Really hoping they track down the one, or ones, responsible.

DNA leads to suspect in slayings of La Verne couple
A jailhouse DNA swab has led investigators to the man they believe killed an elderly La Verne couple at their hilltop estate the day after Christmas.

Luke Fabela, 23, had served state prison time and was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft in San Bernardino a few weeks after the slayings, said Los Angeles County sheriff's detectives, who announced the development at a news conference Wednesday.

Fabela remains in custody at a state prison after pleading guilty to the vehicle thefts, while prosecutors decide whether to charge him with murder in the deaths of Shirley Isom, 74, and Armie “Troy” Isom, 89.

Authorities say a DNA sample on file for Fabela matched DNA collected at the scene of the killings.

The killer acted alone and did not know the victims before bludgeoning and stabbing them to death near their front door, said Lt. Dave Coleman.

The Isoms owned a construction business and had reportedly been receiving threats from family members who wanted access to their money. Investigators have not determined a motive, though the crime was not a murder-for-hire, Coleman said.

The 80-acre hilltop estate on Roughrider Road may have simply caught Fabela’s eye, authorities said.

“We don't know what directed his attention up there, and we may never know,” Coleman said. “If you're familiar with the house, if you look at it from the freeway, it stands out due to the flowers and everything around the house. It is the focal point of everyone's attention up there.”

Authorities say Fabela is the same man spotted walking to and from the estate with a duffel bag or backpack the day of the killings. Investigators released a sketch of the suspect in early January, and witnesses have been taken to the state prison to identify him, Coleman said.

Releasing a mug shot of Fabela would jeopardize further witness identifications and other aspects of the investigation, Coleman said.

Fabela has a lengthy record of property crimes, including theft and burglary. He also has a domestic-violence conviction.

He has no fixed residence, having lived with relatives, girlfriends and friends in Claremont, Pomona, Montclair, La Verne, San Bernardino and elsewhere, authorities said.

Exactly the type of nomad one would hire to kill a rich family member they were fighting for an early inheritance.

Yeah, I thought it was a bit weird the Lt. jumped right out and declared "the crime was not a murder-for-hire."

Daughter of Murdered La Verne Couple Responds to Lawsuit Filed by Stepsister

Mischelynn Scarlatelli, daughter of brutally slain Troy and Shirley Isom, filed an answer on Friday to her stepsister Darci Isom’s lawsuit that falsely accuses Scarlatelli of elder abuse and forging estate plan documents.

Scarlatelli is requesting sanctions alleging that sworn affidavits from Troy’s doctors, lawyers, family and closest friends prove all the accusations in Darci Isom’s lawsuit are false.

A copy of the motion for sanctions and 20 sworn declarations can be downloaded from this webpage.

The chances that this inheritance kerfuffle is not in some way related to how and why they died are miniscule.

A 27-year-old man accused in the gruesome slaying of a La Verne-area couple has been convicted of murder and burglary, prosecutors said.

Luke Fabela, a transient, was found guilty of two counts each of first-degree murder and first-degree residential burglary, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

On Dec. 26, 2014, Shirley Isom, 74, and Armie “Troy” Isom, 89, were found bludgeoned near the front door of their home.

The couple had been violently beaten and stabbed in what was described by authorities at the time as a “blitz attack.” Fabela used a knife and a “hard object,” according to the criminal complaint.

Blunt force trauma was ruled as the cause of death for the husband and wife, the DA’s news release stated.

Fabela killed the couple for the woman’s cellphone, which was the only item missing from the estate, according to prosecutors.

DNA evidence was used to link the defendant to the bloody crime scene, investigators said. He was in state prison in Kern County when he was identified as the prime suspect in the case.

That doesn’t sound plausible to me.. it just doesn’t.. a cell phone.. he probably grabbed it so they could not complete the 911 call .. not because that’s what he came to steal..

Luke Fabela was sentenced to life in state prison Friday.

He was convicted of violently beating and stabbing Shirley Isom, 75, and Armie “Troy” Isom, 89, leaving their bodies near the front door of their home along Roughrider Drive the day after Christmas in 2014. Both died of blunt force trauma.
