One tuff old lady, she gave as good as she got. You can tell she used to be a school teacher in Atlanta.
Atlanta Police are investigating a fatal stabbing on Baker Road that left an 89-year-old woman dead.
The original 911 call came from a man who found the bodies after going to check on his mother. Police responded at 9:30 Friday morning.
Cpt. Ben McGee said police are not looking for any additional suspects and believe the two found inside the home are the only ones involved in the incident.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office identified one victim as Sallie Stokes. The other deceased person is believed to be an intruder, sources told 11Alive's Blayne Alexander.
Stokes was a longtime educator in Atlanta, first working as a school secretary and later as a teacher at Atlanta Public Schools. She had lived at the home for more than 60 years, sources told Alexander.
Stokes' son told 11Alive that he talked to his mother every morning. When he couldn't reach her on Friday, he went to her home. That's where he found her stabbed to death. He said it appeared that the 90-pound woman had fought the intruder off, but was fatally stabbed in the process.
