Police are searching a park and open ground close to the home of a teenager who has been missing since Thursday.

Rebecca Watts, 16, was reported missing after not returning to her home in St George, Bristol, with officers saying it was "out of character".

Police said they had not yet made any significant discoveries but were continuing their efforts.

Rebecca is described as white, 5ft 4ins (1.6m) tall with long red hair. Police said recent photos of her did not reflect the change in her hair colour.

It is thought she was wearing a blue puffa-style jacket on the day she went missing.

Avon and Somerset Police said searches of nearby parks were "routine" in "high-risk" missing person inquiries.

She went missing with her mobile phone and laptop, the force said.

Det Insp Richard Ocone said he would have expected Rebecca to have had contact with close family and friends but nobody has heard from her.

The family home of a missing Bristol teenager is to be searched by forensics officers, police have said.

Father Darren Galsworthy left the house with step-mother Anjie. Police said the search was "standard practice".

Avon and Somerset Police have also been searching Troopers Hill, a nature reserve near the family's home on the Crown Hill road.

It also emerged the force helicopter searched the reserve and surrounding area on Tuesday night.

Troopers Hill is a big nature reserve and normally the view from the top commands panoramic views across Bristol.

The area is very popular with dog walkers and one of them told me they saw police arriving just after 04:00 this morning.

Ok I'm going to sound really jaded saying this - but I don't trust the Fathers demeanour and I think he had something to do with this .

I don't like how he posted on facebook that it was his ' baby girls time of the month ' and to look for blood on partners and men's underwear in the area - that's a very unusual thing to say and I got to thinking he might've said Becky was on her period to explain if any blood is found in the home . Plus her leaving everything except ipad , phone and laptop made me think there were photos or evidence of some sort on them.

Of course - he could be a genuine grieving father grasping at straws out of desperation and totally innocent , but I've seen too many crocodile tears from murderers in families ( Mick Philpott who set fire to the house that killed his 6 children and Tia Sharpes "step- grandfather ' who had her body in the loft of the house while crying for her safe return , for example ) and I can't help but give this man the side eye. He seems weird , her set up was weird and her age and certain clues just made me assume straight away it was him.

I'll gladly eat my words if I am wrong though, I WANT to be wrong .

Forensically, can they tell the difference between menstrual flow and blood spilt in another way? I know the menstrual flow is not only blood, but would the "other" stuff give it properties different enough for the technicians to be able to tell?

If he's attempting to make excuses, let's hope he didn't google it then.

Indeed, forensics can identify different microRNA markers in the blood that would also show the presence of vaginal fluid...

I'm sure I saw that in cold case files once where someone tried a similar trick - menstrual blood has a marker of some sort .

I hope he's just a totally grief stricken father grasping at straws but It sounded odd to me and the police and their ' no comment ' on a lot of things he has said publicly is all just bizarre .

I have had a bad feeling about the dad since the first I read this story. In interviews he has referred to her twice in the past tense and then the whole weird posts on facebook? Seems so guilty.

A lake is being searched as police attempt to locate a teenager who has been missing for more than a week.

[...]

Police are searching the lake in St George Park. They have previously searched Troopers Hill nature reserve.

Meanwhile the head of Avon and Somerset Police's major crime investigation unit, Det Supt Liz Tunks, has taken over the case.

Rebecca's father Darren Galsworthy and stepmother Anjie were taken from the property before the search, which police described as "standard practice".

Police have also said the search of the lake in St George Park is "routine" and they have "no specific intelligence" about the area.

Officers said the search may extend to other nearby lakes.

It doesn't appear to be the folks, they've issued a statement through the police.

What was their statement?
I think if it wasnt the parents then somebody close to the family, and I betthe parents knew or had a part in it.....JMO. Hope Im wrong though.....

"The police have informed us that two people have been arrested in connection with the disappearance of Becky.

"Rebecca has still not been found. We continue to hope that she will be found safe and unharmed but we will prepare ourselves for the worst.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has assisted in the search for Becky and for the messages of support.

"We continue to work with the police to bring their investigation to a successful conclusion and we would like to ask members of the public to continue to report anything, however small, if they think it may help to find Becky."

Maybe I'm still living int he 19th century but why does a father even know when a 16 year old daughter's on her period? That is just strange to me. Seems like he knows waaaaaay too much about her personal stuffs.

He said she was so shy she wouldn't even pay the cashier herself, maybe he buys her sanitary things for her. The stepmother is disabled, so I'm presuming she doesn't do it. Or maybe she gets really bad pmt and he can just tell...
It's creepy though.

Agreed. Not sure I think it is all that creepy that he would be aware of it; but if she is still alive she is never going to forgive him for over-sharing this with the press.....

Posting it that way on Facebook was a bit creepy. He said it was his baby girl's time of the month, although I think he was probably just grasping at straws and hoping someone would notice something. He looks terrible and my heart goes out to him.

The search for Becky Watts, 16, has intensified with police now searching a number of homes in Bristol.

More resources are being called upon in the search for the teenager, reported missing from her home in the St George area of the city on 19 February.

Police said their search of a house in Wilton Close, Southmead, and in the city's Barton Hill district, were part of "lines of inquiry".

A number of locations have been searched within a 2km (1.4 mile) radius of the family home in Crown Hill, including the house itself.

Officers have also searched a car parked outside the house, the lake in St George Park as well as Troopers Hill nature reserve.

Avon and Somerset Police said it was now running six specialist search teams, including officers from Wiltshire, Devon and Cornwall and Gloucestershire forces.

On Monday the police helicopter will be involved again, as will a dog unit from South Wales Police.

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of the murder of missing teenager Becky Watts.

A 28 year-old man and 21 year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of kidnap on Saturday and further arrested earlier, Avon and Somerset Police said.

No further details of the identities of the two people arrested were given by police.

Det Supt Mike Courtiour from Avon and Somerset Police said: "In the meantime, our search for Becky continues unabated.

Searches are continuing at houses in Wilton Close, Southmead, at Cotton Mill Lane, Barton Hill, and at her family home in Crown Hill, St George.

Further searches are also taking place off Wharf Road in Fishponds and at Trym Valley, near Southmead. Later on Monday, another search began in Badock's Wood, near Southmead and police divers also began searching Henleaze Lake, Bristol where Henleaze Swimming Club is based.

Police are also trying to trace sightings of a black Vauxhall Zafira with the registration plate HY06 HYA, which neighbours say officers examined and took from in front of the house in Southmead.

Police say the "critical time" on which they need information about the car is from the morning of Thursday 19 February to the following Monday.

They also want to talk to the vehicle's previous owners.

During a press conference, police said they could not comment on the current ownership of the car but that it was of "critical significance".

Police investigating the disappearance of teenager Becky Watts say they have found body parts at a house in Bristol.

Four men and one woman have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Det Supt Mike Courtiour, of Avon and Somerset Police, said officers attended a house at Barton Court in the Barton Hill area of the city after receiving new information on Monday night.

"The information suggested that Becky's body had been cut up and a search at the new location resulted in the discovery of body parts," he said.

"Although formal identification procedures have not yet been completed, we have made Becky's family aware of this discovery."

He said the latest five arrests - two men aged 29, two aged 23 and a woman aged 23 - were made as a result of the find. All seven arrested people remain in police custody.

It seems that there is a family connection. The two arrested for murder have been named....

The stepbrother of the Bristol teenager Becky Watts and his girlfriend are being questioned over the girl’s kidnap and murder.
Nathan Matthews, 28, and his girlfriend Shauna Phillips, 21, were arrested at the weekend as police desperately searched for 16-year-old Becky.
Police were given extra time to question the pair on Tuesday after body parts were found at a house about two miles from Becky’s home.
Matthews is a delivery driver and claims on his Facebook page that he served in the British army. Phillips posted appeals for information about Becky on social media before she was arrested. They have a young child.
