Emily Dearden and Kenneth Dearden are seen in happier times. Now the husband has accused his wife of trying to kill him.

NYPD shrink suspected of shooting her husband while he slept in their Westchester home is facing criminal charges in connection with the whodunit
[....]
Dr. Emily Dearden is expected to surrender to Yonkers police Friday,
[..]
Defense lawyer Paul Bergman declined to comment on the imminent arrest. A spokesman for the Westchester County district attorney did not return calls.

Dearden’s husband, developer Kenneth Dearden, was shot in the back of the head with a small caliber gun on Nov. 13, 2013 at 4 a.m., and the mysterious shooting has been under investigation
[...]
The NYPD had reassigned Dr. Dearden to administrative duties so she was no longer performing mental screenings of police candidates.

But a lawsuit filed Nov. 5 by Kenneth Dearden reads like anything but a mystery — he is suing his wife for trying to kill him in a "sadistic attack" so she could be with her married lover.
[...]
The bombshell suit apparently ignited a fire under authorities in Yonkers to make a decision on the case.
[...]
Emily Dearden, a mother of two children, has hired a respected private investigator to dig into her husband’s background
[..]
The PI, a retired NYPD detective named James Harkins, has successfully worked behind the scenes for John A. (Junior) Gotti, Calvin Klein and former Congressman Vito Fossella.

Kenneth Dearden's suit, cops found no evidence of an intruder in the house and the burglar alarm had been deactivated shortly before the shooting.

Emily Dearden allegedly met with her lover, Warren Roudebush, of Texas, on the morning of the shooting before going to the hospital to visit her wounded husband
[...]
Roudebush had allegedly separated from his wife and, the suit alleges, was pressuring Emily to end her marriage. Roudebush arrived in New York sometime after the shooting.

“We are fully confident in the Westchester authorities,” said lawyer Mitchell Schuster

but declined further comment because of a protective order issued by the judge.

Well, that sure explains a lot of the issues the NYPD has been having with their younger officers. A psychopathic psychologist reviewing the mental health of new hires doesn't exactly seem like an ideal situation. :sarcasm:

As a shrink herself, she should haev been able to see this level of crazy coming in herself and her "lover". Just sayin.

his wife for trying to kill him in a "sadistic attack" so she could be with her married lover.

What a surprise, she was a fucking whore. Prob had recently got a sizeable life insurance policy on him too. Men need to be careful with this shit. Honestly if you find out your wife is cheating it's best just to call it quits right then and there and go into hiding, give her whatever she wants in the divorce settlement. It's that or serious injury/maiming/death. Can't trust these sluts.

Man Says Cheating Wife Shot Him In The Head To Avoid Messy Divorce

was shot in the head as he slept at home says his cheating wife did it in an attempt to kill him and avoid a messy divorce.

Kenneth Dearden provided an unusually detailed look at the case from his point of view by filing a lawsuit against his wife,
[...]
a year after the shooting and two weeks before she was arrested.

He said he was sleeping in their upscale suburban home on Nov. 14, 2013, and woke up with a searing pain in his jaw ? from a gunshot to the base of his skull.

possibly because the shooter apparently used an antique derringer that had been a gift to his wife from her parents.
[...]
said his wife had been having an affair with a man since 2011 and the man was pressuring her to end her 18-year marriage.

"With Plaintiff no longer in the picture, Defendant could avoid a contentious divorce, keep the marital home and never admit the marital infidelity to any family or friends," says Dearden's lawsuit, which alleges assault, battery and emotional distress and seeks unspecified damages.

Despite the alleged affair, Kenneth Dearden and his wife, Emily Dearden, were still living together with their two daughters when the shooting occurred and continued to do so for a year afterward, even after she filed for divorce in August.
[...]
Emily Dearden has been charged with attempted murder but denies the charge and her husband's allegations. Her lawyer, Paul Bergman, called the lawsuit "baseless" and said it was retaliation for her divorce filing.

"These new and outrageous allegations by Mr. Dearden, which completely contradict statements he gave the police at the time of the incident a year ago, are clearly being made by a husband who is furious that his wife has filed for divorce,

Emily Dearden, who is free on $150,000 bail, has been suspended from her NYPD job. She has moved to Manhattan and was ordered to stay away from the rest of the family. She has until next month to respond to the lawsuit, said Kenneth Dearden's lawyer, Mitchell Schuster.

The couple's daughters are living with their father.

Felder said using a gun is "definitely one way to end a marriage, but I don't think it's a good alternative."

Kenneth Dearden said that on the night of the shooting he went looking for his wife to take him to the hospital and he found her on the floor of the family room "claiming she had been hit on the head."

The house alarm had been turned off a few minutes earlier,
[...]
At the hospital, it was discovered the bullet had severed an artery and lodged in his cheek.

When police returned to the couple's house to investigate, Emily Dearden was washing bloody clothes and asked if they had a warrant, the lawsuit says. The police found a pair of derringers and determined one had been fired, but the bullet taken from Kenneth Dearden's head was too damaged for a ballistics match
[...]
He alleged that after the shooting his wife called her lover before notifying his family and met the lover for coffee before visiting him at the hospital.

Sure... because men never cheat or murder their spouses...
