The U.S. Attorney's office said in a statement Thursday that the office has moved to dismiss the case charging Ingmar Guandique with Levy's 2001 murder.

According to the statement, prosecutors concluded they could not convict Guandique "based on recent unforeseen developments that were investigated over the past week." The statement does not elaborate.

Levy's 2001 disappearance created a national sensation after the Modesto, California, native was romantically linked with then-Congressman Gary Condit.

I followed this case closely and am soooooo curious to learn what the new unforeseen developments that has happened over just this past week are that they based their decision on.

I agree, I followed this at the time and I wonder too what has come up to make them dismiss the case.

Gary Condit has resurfaced as suspect in Washington Intern murder victim Chandra Levy.

Two purported ex-lovers of former California congressman Gary A. Condit told the FBI that he had a penchant for bondage during sex, and one of the women said he was “aggressive” with her during a sexual encounter, according to a new court filing.

The statements, made in 2001 to agents investigating the disappearance and slaying of federal intern Chandra Levy, were cited by defense attorneys representing the man facing retrial in the case.

At a hearing in D.C. Superior Court on Thursday, the attorneys for Ingmar Guandique asked to depose the women in preparation for his trial. They said the accounts of the women, who were not publicly identified, could help their client and point to Condit as a “main suspect” in the killing.

I thought at the time that Condit was good for Chandra's murder but he had a enormous innocent machine in his plus column. The best money could buy.
