Shocking information is revealed in a murder plot investigation that has 30-year-old Preston Rhoads behind bars.

According to the affidavit, Rhoads told a co-worker that he was trying to "kill his pregnant girlfriend with ricin."

The murder plot started via text message with Rhoads' former co-worker. He told him he had something serious to discuss with him.

The friend jokingly stated that he can "make people disappear." Rhoads responded via text, saying not to joke about that if you can't deliver.

During a face-to-face meeting, the co-worker says Rhoads showed him a vial and claimed it was ricin.

That same co-worker said Rhoads told him he downloaded a manual explaining how to manufacture the poison. The co-worker says while at Rhoads' home, he found what he believed to be equipment to make ricin in the bathroom.

"That's really scary to know that that's going on, and I'm right around the corner with my children," neighbor Kynicia Crutchfield said.

A single dose of the poison made up of only a few grains can be enough to kill.

The affidavit states Rhoads revealed the information about the ricin because he wanted to hire the friend to poison Rhoads pregnant girlfriend in order to kill the unborn baby. It says Rhoads stated that if the girlfriend were to die in the process, he would be ok with the result. That friend refused to participate and claims Rhoads got angry and told him he should not have told him about his plan as he left.

The friend contacted Rhoads again on April 10 and asked Rhoads if he should be concerned about being poisoned because he held the vial Rhoads stated was ricin. He also asked Rhoads if he were joking. But that friend felt Rhoads was not joking and that he contacted authorities, who raided Rhoads home on April 17.

Now, because of the threat of ricin, this has turned into both a state and federal investigation and the FBI and US Attorney's Office has met with the Oklahoma County district attorney to discuss the investigation.

A man accused of trying to kill his pregnant girlfriend with ricin pleaded guilty Thursday.

Preston Rhoads, 31, was arrested in April 2014 after investigators got a tip he had recruited a friend to help carry out the murder plot.

He said he wanted to kill his unborn child.

The 31-year-old pleaded guilty in an emotional court hearing.

He will serve, at most, 20 years in prison.

Prosecutors called a number of witnesses Thursday, including the girlfriend he tried to poison.

In a surprise revelation in court, we learned the baby he was trying to kill wasn’t actually his baby.

In tears, Rhoads apologized for his crimes.

Preston Rhoads listened as his ex-girlfriend told the court, “Every day I think about how I was almost murdered.”
