Four-year-old Dequan Peters keeps asking the same question: Where is mommy?

But Dequan's family members are not sure what to tell him about his mother, Samira Watkins, 25, of Pensacola, who has been missing since last week.
Eight Pensacola police investigators are asking the same question as they try to figure out where Watkins is.

Watkins, who is two months pregnant, was last seen by her family about 9:30 p.m. Thursday when she left the home of her grandmother, Minnie Joseph, on DeSoto Street. She was going to see the father of her unborn child in the 3500 block Creighton Road.

"We are not sure exactly what has taken place right now," Pensacola Assistant Police Chief Chip Simmons said. "We have not ruled out foul play."
Investigators have talked to the father of Watkins' unborn child twice, Simmons said.

Simmons would not reveal what the father told investigators, including whether the man said he saw Watkins the night she disappeared.
Sylvia Watkins, 23, one of Samira's four siblings, reported her sister missing at 10:15 a.m. Saturday.
Samira was last seen driving her red 1997 Ford Taurus. The car's Florida tag number is B387FP.
Sylvia said she called her sister's cell phone all day Friday and there was no answer.

"I still call hoping that something changes," she said.

Sylvia Watkins said she also went by the apartment of the father of her sister's unborn child but no one answered the door.

"So we knocked on a neighbor's door, and she came to the door and said that he moved out earlier that morning, which was Friday morning," she said.
Samira didn't go to work Friday or Saturday, increasing her family's fears that something was wrong.

She is a manager at the McDonald's on Pine Forest Road. She has worked there since she was about 18-years-old.

"When her job called, that's what made me think something isn't right because she's not going to miss work," Sylvia said.
The family is holding on to hope that Samira will be found OK, said Shearle Bruster, 25, Samira's cousin.
Bruster said the family has been praying and leaning on one another for comfort.

"I have been nervous, sometimes depressed and wondering where she's at, if she's alive or not," Bruster said. "I wish they would hurry up and find her because the thought of her being alone in the dark out there, that is just a scary thought."

Sylvia Watkins said her sister had a lot she was looking forward to.
Samira was planning a birthday party for her son. Dequan turns 5 on Nov. 19.
Sylvia Watkins said she is not sure what to tell Dequan when he asks about his mother.

"I really can't explain to him, right now, where his mom is," she said.
She said her sister also was looking forward to a Nov. 25 trip out of town. The sisters, a cousin, a friend and a god sister planned to celebrate Thanksgiving in Jacksonville.

Samira is a student at Pensacola Junior College and is working to become a dental assistant. She is slated to graduate in May.
"She was happy about that," Sylvia said. "She was happy about moving on up in life."

A black woman's body has washed ashore in Bayou Grande in southwestern Escambia County.

Assistant Pensacola Police Chief Chip Simmons said the body belongs to Samira Watkins, 25, who has been missing since Thursday.

Investigators suspect foul play in Watkins' death.

"This wasn't just a body floating ashore," Simmons said.

Simmons said investigators have questioned the father of Watkins' unborn baby. However, no arrests have been made.

Investigators also have not located Watkins' 1997 Ford Taurus. The car's Florida tag number is B387FP.

About a dozen law enforcement officers are at the shoreline assisting in the recovery of the woman's body.

Two men on personal watercraft found the body, Simmons said.
About 50 feet of the shoreline has been cordoned off by crime-scene tape as officers search the area.

Shortly before 4 p.m., a sheet was held up and the woman's body was being examined.

The Medical Examiner's Office is assisting at the scene.

Two divers are in the water assisting in the search.

Details will be posted as they become available.

Family members gathered at her Mother's home after getting the news Police had identified her body after it washed ashore at Navy point, just north of NAS Pensacola.

"She was a sweet-going woman," says Watkins' cousin, Clarissa Joseph. "She was always happy, she was working at McDonald's. She was in school. She was doing good for herself."

Police say jet-skiers discovered the body in the water of Bayou Grande. Assistant Chief Chip Simmons says they suspect foul play. Family members said she dropped off her five year old son with them last Thursday and said she was going to meet with the father of her unborn baby. She was about two months pregnant they said. Police say they have questioned the father but so far, no arrests have been made.

"I want to tell him that if he did this, God's going to punish you, not for only one person, but two people," Joseph said.

Police are also continuing to search for Watkins' 1997 red Ford Taurus.

Samira Watkins

Samira Watkins' body was found stuffed inside a duffel bag floating along the west bank Bayou Grande, her aunt said Wednesday.
Betty Joseph, Watkins' aunt, said the family is coping as best they can.
"It's just hard," she said. "Samira was a good person, a good mother, a hard worker and always had a smile on her face. We're just ready to have some closure."
The father of Watkins' unborn child — a married man — has not been publicly identified, but Simmons said he has been interviewed several times.

They found her vehicle, too!
A homicide victim's car was found Thursday in the 2900 block of Bellview Avenue.
Watkins' car was taken to the Pensacola Police Department to be searched for evidence.
No arrests have been made in Watkins' death, but the focus of the investigation is now centered on one person, Pensacola Assistant Police Chief Chip Simmons said.
"We are not ready to name a suspect yet," Simmons said. "We are zeroing in on one person. During the course of the investigation, we determined that's the direction that we need to follow."
A cause of death has not been released in Watkins' death.

A military police officer was arrested today and charged in the death of a Pensacola woman was reported missing in October.

Zachary Littleton, 25, a member of the Navy, is being held without bond on a murder charge in the death of Samira Watkins, 25, who was two months pregnant.

Investigators believe that Littleton, who is married, fathered Watkins’ unborn child but didn’t want Watkins to have the child, Pensacola Assistant Police Chief Chip Simmons said.

“We believe that he was looking at other alternatives, and ... she did not agree with those,” Simmons said. “We believe that’s motive for the homicide.”

Watkins was last seen alive by her family about 9:30 p.m. Oct. 29 when she left the home of her grandmother, Minnie Joseph, on DeSoto Street.

Investigators believe Watkins went to see Littleton, Simmons said.

Littleton made his first appearance since his arrest Monday before Escambia County Judge David Ackerman. The judge ordered the Navy petty officer third class held without bond pending a meeting of a grand jury.

State Attorney Bill Eddins said a grand jury will consider whether to charge the Mississippi native with premeditated first-degree murder, a charge that carries a possible death penalty or a minimum mandatory life sentence upon a conviction.
[...]

The detailed seven-page probable-cause warrant also detailed new information about Littleton and Watkins' relationship and the final hours of her life.

Her sister Sylvia said Watkins and Littleton met in August. When her sister told Littleton she was pregnant, he demanded that she get an abortion. Watkins insisted she would have the baby and hoped Littleton would provide support, according to the affidavit.

Watkins finished her shift at the Pine Forest Road McDonald's about 8:20 p.m. Oct. 29, the last day anyone in her family saw her alive.

Sylvia Watkins said that her sister planned to meet Littleton that night to talk about the pregnancy. She wanted to meet somewhere public. Littleton didn't want to, according to her statement to investigators.

In an initial interview with investigators, Littleton said he wasn't positive that Watkins' unborn child was his.

A search of his computer revealed that he inquired about abortion clinics in Pensacola and inquiries about aftercare and prices for the procedure, the affidavit says.
Night of the crime

Littleton's neighbor, Denise Neil, approached a homicide investigator and said that she saw the pair arguing Oct. 29 — the night Watkins disappeared — in the parking lot at the parking complex. Littleton appeared "aggressive," according to the report, and a woman matching Watkins' description tried to calm him down.
[...]

She had several layers of gray duct tape wrapped around her nose, mouth and eyes. Along with her body, investigators discovered a paper towel with a flower and bluebird design and disposable cleaning cloths.

A golden hoop earring, her favorite, remained in Watkins' ear. When they searched Littleton's apartment Nov. 6, investigators found its match, the affidavit said.

A preliminary DNA test revealed that it likely belonged to Watkins. Investigators also found a roll of paper towels that matched the design pattern on the towel found in the bag along with containers of Lysol and Clorox disinfectant wipes, the affidavit says.

A search of Littleton's laptop revealed Web searches for "what speeds up human remains decomposition," "what speeds up body decomposition," and "How to pass a polygraph," the affidavit said.

Littleton is due back in court Dec. 17.

Agreed.

Stuffed in a duffel bag and tossed into a lake? Sick. My money is on the baby's father even more now knowing he's MARRIED.

There was a similar case like this here in Philly regarding Latoya Figueroa. I had the pleasure of meeting her father at a vigil for his daughter.

These men who killing women pregnant w/ their OWN children! Many already have children, so they know what parental responsibility is! What about sexual responsibility? If you're going to be sexually active, wrap it up and you won't have to worry about unwanted pregnancies! And then the consequences later. Their only resolution is to kill someone (and their child), vs telling the person they are w/ that they have a child on the way? Selfish and sick.

She was beautiful. What a horrible thing this guy did. What a fucking dumb ass for doing his business on his own computer!!!

A judge granted $500,000 bond today for a Navy man accused of killing his pregnant mistress and dumping her body in Bayou Grande.

Zachary Littleton, 25, a master of arms in the U.S. Navy is charged with first-degree murder in the Oct. 31 disappearance and death of Samira Watkins.

Boaters discovered a duffel bag that contained Watkins' body Nov. 3 along the bayou shore. Her face was covered with duct tape from her mouth to her eyes, according to arrest reports.

Circuit Judge Terry Terrell said that while the evidence gathered during the Pensacola Police Department’s investigation more than meets the threshold for probable cause to arrest Littleton, the state’s case lacks physical evidence like blood, fingerprints or DNA.

Wonder if his wife still loves him and will bond him out?

why did she, and other preg murdered woman, not get the coverage that lacy peterson did.
Other than the obvious "because she's black" stuff...

There just isn't the long mystery surrounding the case. She wasn't missing long and an arrest was fairly quick and obvious. It's not like having a loving partner/spouse claiming innocence, a body missing for months, no evidence of who/what/where.

Laci Peterson case only blew up because she was missing for months and her family initially supported who they thought was a "loving and heartbroken" husband... only to discover he was a scoundrel. Most of the evidence against Peterson was circumstantial so there was tons of room for speculation. His antics also added to the media circus.

The coverage on this case may have exploded if everything hadn't been cut-n-dried from the beginning and if Littleton courted the media like Peterson did. Also, some areas allow the release of much more info during the investigation (by the cops/prosecutors) to the media. If there isn't anything different to report, no sense in printing the same news every day.
