A Montgomery County man who admitted to setting a cat on fire won't be heading to prison.

A judge sentenced Noah Riley to two years of supervised probation for animal cruelty on Tuesday.

The rest of Riley's sentence was suspended.

Someone found the cat named "Phoenix" near the Crawfordsville airport this past January.

She had been tied up with a rope, covered in gas, and burned alive.

A local animal rescue group took the cat in and tried to nurse her back to health.

But "Phoenix" died of her injuries just a few days later.

According to court documents, Riley and his girlfriend tortured the cat by binding its legs together with a cord and pouring gasoline over the animal’s body before setting it on fire along C.R. 500S. Riley admitted to investigators he lit the match to ignite the cat before the couple returned to their vehicle and left the scene, leaving the severely burned animal behind.

maybe someone should be looking at the judge too, this isn't the only serious case that popped up with her preceding that she handed probation instead of jail or prison time

This prick and his girlfriend should be in prison!! WTF!
It would be a real shame of someone showed up to his house and set his car on fire.... Preferably with both of them in it.... Just saying, it would be a shame

Anyone else imagining a train running his ass over while hes so hideously posing for the camera on the train tracks?
Wishful thinking!

Seems like Judge Heather Barajas pulled a fast one against the media and the citizens.
[...]

This case had been on the books for more than seven months. The final sentencing date was set for 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5. At the last minute there was suddenly room for it on Friday, Sept. 1. Right before a three-day weekend. No one was told. Many planned to attend, some even taking time off work. And of course, the media would have been there. Could it be that Buser and Barajas knew the sentence was too light, and they didn’t want to fight the backlash? No wonder no one trusts the system. They do what works best for themselves and forget the public they serve.
