A judge sentenced Noah Riley to two years of supervised probation for animal cruelty on Tuesday.
The rest of Riley's sentence was suspended.
Someone found the cat named "Phoenix" near the Crawfordsville airport this past January.
She had been tied up with a rope, covered in gas, and burned alive.
A local animal rescue group took the cat in and tried to nurse her back to health.
But "Phoenix" died of her injuries just a few days later.

According to court documents, Riley and his girlfriend tortured the cat by binding its legs together with a cord and pouring gasoline over the animal’s body before setting it on fire along C.R. 500S. Riley admitted to investigators he lit the match to ignite the cat before the couple returned to their vehicle and left the scene, leaving the severely burned animal behind.
