"This past Friday Darren Witmer pled guilty to one count of extortion by a written threat. He sent a letter to this older woman in Montgomery County asking her to fill his prison account with $700 in cash or would have someone on the outside come and get her,” said the Public Affairs Director for the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The 75 year old elderly woman, who lived alone; and feared for her life called the police. Montgomery County officials say six years were added to Witmer's life sentences.

"She temporarily moved out of the state to calm any concern she had of this guy sending to other guys to quote- get her,” added Korionoff.

So what landed Witmer to be in prison in the first place?

Well officials say Witmer broke into the Frederick, Md., apartment of an 83-year-old man and beat him to death for $300 back in 1994. Days later, he forced a 78-year-old man in the same area to write a check for $1,000 before he killed him, and in prison; Witmer strangled his cellmate.

Then...fast forward to last year, when Witmer tried to strike again…

"After killing his cell mate- Darren Witmer used the information found in those documents from his cellmate to extort monoey from an acquaintance of that cell mate’s mother,” added Korionoff.

I do like that he killed a cell mate though.
Perhaps there could be use for him in culling the prison population.
