A man may have sustained permanent damage to his face during a fight over a parasol stolen from an Edinburgh beer garden, police said.
The 23-year-old was treated in hospital following the serious assault near The Hanging Bat bar on Lothian Road at about 21:00 on Friday.
Two men, who had stolen the parasol from a nearby pub, were challenged by three men.
The first man was described as white, in his late 20s, of slim build with fair short hair and a local accent. He was wearing a light grey top with a black backpack.
The second man was white and in his late 20s to early 30s. He was about 5ft 9ins tall with a medium to large build, had black or dark brown short hair, and also spoke with a local accent. He was wearing a black t-shirt, which was ripped on the left shoulder.
