Officers from South Wales Police have been seen searching undergrowth and areas near Pontypridd Rugby Club. A helicopter has been hovering overhead.

Det Supt Paul Hurley said: "We would like to speak to anybody who thinks they may have information that can help our investigation. No matter how insignificant the information may seem, we would like people to contact us.

"In particular, we want to speak to anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the vicinity of Andrews Court, Rickards Street, were the body was found, and also to anyone who may have seen something suspicious near the rugby ground on Sardis Road in the past couple of days."

Police said investigations were ongoing to confirm the identity of the body.

A woman was mutilated and dismembered after she was murdered in a sexually motivated attack, a court heard.

A woman was mutilated and dismembered after she was murdered in a sexually motivated attack, a court heard.

Police officers found parts of Tracey Woodford's body in a bath along with a saw and knives three days after she had been reported missing, Cardiff Crown Court was told.

The court heard Ms Woodford, who lived with her brother and mother, visited a number of pubs after shopping at Pontypridd's Cash Generator store on 21 April.

She was refused alcohol after appearing intoxicated at the town's Skinny Dog pub at about 19:45 BST, but joined Mr May and two other men who were drinking at a table.

A barmaid said the men were "merry" after drinking six to eight pints, the barrister added.

After the group left the pub at 23:20 BST, Ms Woodford was seen walking with Mr May in the general direction of his home in Andrew's Court.

A former butcher who killed and dismembered a woman has told a court he cut up and hid her body because he feared being arrested.

Christopher Nigel May, 50, denies murder at Cardiff Crown Court.

He said Ms Woodford arrived at the Skinny Dog pub in Pontypridd and joined a conversation he was having with friends.

He became attracted to her and she agreed to come back to his flat for sex, he said.

He told how Ms Woodford initiated sex, they undressed each other and had sex in his living room before he "lost interest".

He said he fell asleep and woke to find her looking in his wallet. An argument broke out and she threw the wallet at him, he told the court.

"I lost control then - I don't remember, the next thing I knew she was dead", he said.

He added: "I was in a panic. If I get arrested because I killed her... I decided to get rid of the body and cut her up and hide her".

He said he had never had non-consensual sex.

He admitted regularly drinking at the Skinny Dog pub and said he consumed up to eight pints at a time.

The jury was told he had a number of previous convictions for burglary, theft, arson and drink-driving.

A "cruel and callous" ex-butcher who killed and dismembered a woman before carrying her severed head through a town to hide it has been jailed for life.

On Friday, May was told he will serve at least 28 years in prison.

Members of Ms Woodford's family, who have been in court throughout the trial, cried "yes" as sentence was passed.

Mrs Justice Nicola Davies branded May a dangerous sexual predator, adding: "Your murder of Tracey Woodford was cruel, callous and determined.

"These same characteristics prompted you to dismember the body of Tracey and then deliberately conceal it.

"This was done for one reason - to avoid detection for the murder you knew you had committed.

May always claimed he had either been acting in self defence or had lost control.

But prosecutors said the murder was motivated by a "perverted sexual desire" after the pair met at the Skinny Dog pub in the town on 21 April.

Some of Ms Woodford's remains were found at May's flat by two police officers carrying out routine inquiries three days after she had been reported missing.

Her decapitated torso was recovered from a black bag in a kitchen cupboard and a right thumb was found in a handbag along with a purse with Ms Woodford's bank cards.

Her head was discovered in an "underground chamber" of a storm drain at the Sardis Road rugby ground - home to Pontypridd RFC.

Police officers found parts of Tracey Woodford's body in a shower along with a saw and knives three days after she had been reported missing, Cardiff Crown Court was told.

Ms Woodford, 47, was discovered at a flat in Pontypridd, Rhondda Cynon Taff, on 24 April 2015.

Jurors heard that, after the discovery in the bathroom, the arresting police officer asked where the rest of Ms Woodford's body parts were, and the defendant replied: "Some is in the cupboard and some in the storm drain at Pontypridd RFC."

The court was also told a woman's decapitated torso was recovered from a black bag in a kitchen cupboard and a right thumb was found in a handbag along with a purse with Ms Woodford's bank cards.

Roger Thomas QC, prosecuting, said the defendant claimed he either acted in self-defence, it was an accident or he lost self-control.

"The defendant admits his actions were responsible in causing her death but disputes his conduct amounts to murder," said Mr Thomas.

"The prosecution submits, quite simply, this was a deliberate, brutal, vicious and sexually-motivated murder."

He added: "The circumstances surrounding her death are harrowing and distressing. After her death she was mutilated and dismembered.

"These actions were carried out deliberately and methodically with the clear intention of concealing the body parts, and thereby evading detection and arrest."

Christopher May, 50, of Graig, Pontypridd, denies her murder.

This is the worst...I always feel really bad for those that end up dismembered. I end up picturing a poor ghost wondering around trying to find all of their pieces.

Did she have some form of mental retardation or is her appearance in that pic simply due to her being British?

He'll be out in 10.

The news sources are being careful not to offend, but reading between the lines she would appear to have had some form of learning difficulties.
