Duo wanted in Wendover shooting may have murdered Sanpete County couple, police say
Jan. 1, 2012
MT. PLEASANT — The same man and woman who shot a Wendover woman in the head during a carjacking Saturday may have earlier shot and killed an elderly couple in their Mt. Pleasant home, investigators said Sunday.
Officers discovered the bodies of Leroy Woody Fullwood, 70, and Dorothy Ann Fullwood, 69, in their home on the east edge of Mt. Pleasant, 399 S. 600 East, about 8 p.m. Saturday, said Mt. Pleasant Police Chief Jim Wilberg. The couple died from gunshot wounds, likely sometime Thursday night or Friday morning.
He said the Fullwoods appeared to be victims of a "random robbery."
Just before 7 a.m. on Saturday, a couple forced a West Wendover woman into her car at gunpoint in the parking lot of a Wendover casino. Witnesses said a woman got into the car with the victim while her male accomplice followed in another vehicle.
Police said the victim eventually overpowered the woman and forced her out of the car at a secluded intersection. As the victim fled, she was shot in the back of her head. However, she was able to drive to the West Wendover police station for help. The 35-year-old woman remained hospitalized Sunday in a Salt Lake hospital.
The couple took off in the original stolen car, leading police on a chase on I-80 at speeds exceeding 100 mph. Nevada troopers laid out spikes at one point, but the fleeing vehicle was able to avoid them and the couple escaped. Officers believe the couple stole another vehicle in Wells, Nev.
Wilberg said the couple made a purchase with one of the Fullwoods' credit cards in West Wendover. That discovery prompted the call to Mt. Pleasant police, asking them to check on the Fullwoods' welfare.
The man and woman, who still have not been located, are also thought to be connected to a Thursday car theft in Moroni, about five miles west of Mt. Pleasant.
Police have only described the couple wanted in the carjacking and possibly the Mt. Pleasant double homicide as Caucasian. The two were in a gray Volkswagen Jetta with the Colorado license plate of 725WHX.
If the vehicle is spotted, the public is urged to call local police or dial 911.
A convenience store surveillance video of the gunman released by the West Wendover police showed a slender, young to middle-aged man wearing dark clothing and a white cap. Wilberg said his department has been working with federal marshals and the Sanpete County Sheriff's Office and have “leads on who the suspects might be.”
nvestigators are also searching for a weapon believed to have been thrown from the couple's vehicle during the high-speed chase with Nevada state troopers.
Meanwhile, neighbors of the Fullwoods were devastated Sunday by the news of their deaths.
"If this happened to the Fullwoods, it can happen to anyone," said neighbor Coleen Oltrogge.
The Fullwoods were good people," she said. “They worked in the (LDS Manti) Temple once a week. They took care of their kids and grandkids
She said the Fullwoods were the kind of people who would put up a fight if someone broke into their house. Oltrogge described Dorothy Ann Fullwood as a retired schoolteacher who worked with her in the local LDS Relief Society.
Other neighbors also described the Fullwoods as “good people.”
ltrogge says the killings have shaken up the small city.
"The hard thing is folks here trust people. They leave their doors unlocked," she said. "It's important that we look out for each other."

Son of slain Mt. Pleasant couple a West Jordan police officer
JAN 2 2012
WEST JORDAN —The children of a Mt. Pleasant couple discovered shot to death in their home late last week described their parents as caring and faith-focused Monday as former neighbors and co-workers expressed sadness and reflected on the impact Ann and Woody Fullwood had on their lives.
"They were kind and loving people who cared deeply for everyone — family, friends and strangers alike," a statement provided by the Fullwood family reads. "They raised us with faith in Christ, and they demonstrated this faith through service for their country, community, and family. We know that our parents are now focused, not on the events that led to their death, but on the next chapter of their eternal lives."
The couple's son is a detective for the West Jordan Police Department. Michael Fullwood has also served on the Salt Lake Area Gang Task Force and as a school resource office during his career as police officer, according to West Jordan City Council minutes.
West Jordan police would not comment on the length of Fullwood's tenure with the suburban police department nor whether his role as police officer was connected to the slaying of his parents. Questions were referred to Mt. Pleasant authorities, who were not available for comment Monday.

Couple wanted in double killing arrested in Nevada
jAN 3 2012
MT. PLEASANT, Sanpete County — U.S. marshals have arrested a Utah couple in connection with a two-state crime spree including a double homicide in Mt. Pleasant and a carjacking in West Wendover.
Logan Welles McFarland, 24, and Angela Marie Hill, 25, were arrested without incident about 1:20 p.m. by U.S. marshals, the Elko County Sheriff's Office and West Wendover police. "The location of the arrest was an extremely rural area of Elko County near Wells, Nev.," police said
Law enforcers responded to a report of a man and a woman seen walking in the desert near Big Springs Ranch in Nevada, between Wells and Wendover. Marshals found the couple, detained them and confirmed their identities.
The couple was expected to be transported to the Elko County Jail in Nevada.
An arrest warrant for second-degree felony burglary was issued Sunday for McFarland. The affidavit says McFarland and Hill burglarized a home in Mt. Pleasant before carjacking a woman in West Wendover and shooting her in the head as she tried to get away from them.
The arrest warrant does not directly connect McFarland or Hill to the shooting deaths of Leroy Woody Fullwood, 70, and his wife, Dorothy Ann Fullwood, 69. However, in other papers filed in 6th District Court, investigators say, "The state of Utah considers Logan Welles McFarland a person of interest in the deaths of the two ... Mt. Pleasant residents."
Likewise, Mt. Pleasant Police Chief Jim Wilberg said Tuesday the couple had "killed two people and attempted to kill someone else," and needed to be caught.
Wilberg said investigators believe Hill dropped McFarland off at the Fullwood home to commit a burglary.
"I don't think he went there to commit the homicide," Wilberg said.
But McFarland also reportedly believed the world was going to end in 2012, the chief said.
"He kind of bought into the whole 'the world was going to end in 2012' thing and didn't really care what was going to happen after that day," he said. "He thought things weren't going to exist after the new year."
Both McFarland and Hill have a history of drug use and could have been going through withdrawals, which makes them even more dangerous, Wilberg said.
At least two handguns and rifles were taken from the burglary.
Items found in a car that McFarland and Hill allegedly stole, including jewelry, were directly linked to the Fullwoods. The affidavit also revealed that a Del Taco receipt, found in another vehicle the couple was allegedly driving, showed a purchase was made using the Fullwoods' credit card.
[..]
Hill is also known as Angela Marie Atwood. According to the arrest warrant for McFarland, in which Hill is referred to as Atwood, the couple borrowed a 1997 Plymouth Breeze from an acquaintance on Dec. 29 so he could "go to Mt. Pleasant to a 'friend's house,'" the arrest warrant states.
The couple returned the car at midnight on Dec. 30. McFarland "bragged to him about acquiring firearms and money," according to the affidavit.
But when the acquaintance got out of bed about 6 a.m., the car was gone again. McFarland later called to say the car could be found abandoned in Santaquin just off I-15. When the man retrieved the car, he found what appeared to be a jewelry box in the trunk, according to court documents. He also found an electric grill, a keyboard, a black plastic box and a metal container with "Geo Cache" written on it.
Fearing the property was stolen, the man first opted to burn some of the items, but later called police after viewing an online news story about the Mt. Pleasant killings and seeing a photo of a person he thought he could identify, according to court records.
When police searched the fire pit where some of the items were burned, they found a pair of gold earrings that the Fullwoods' daughter confirmed belonged to her mother. They also found a necklace with "firefighter's mom" engraved on it, and a lighter with the words "USS Kittyhawk" that belonged to her father.
After the car in Santaquin was abandoned, another vehicle, a Saturn Ion, was stolen near the area.
Later, outside the Red Garter Casino in Wendover, Nev., Hill allegedly forced a middle-age woman into the passenger seat of her car and took control of her vehicle. About a quarter-mile from the casino, the woman tried to fight off her carjacker by "biting her ear, neck and forcing her from the vehicle," the affidavit states. Hill fired a shot at the woman as she drove away, according to the arrest warrant.
The woman was struck in the back of the head, but she was able to drive herself to the police station. At last word, she was in critical condition at University Hospital in Salt Lake City.
The Saturn was found abandoned in Wells, Nev. The couple allegedly then stole a Volkswagen Jetta with Colorado license plate No. 725 WHX.
A search of court records indicates that McFarland's criminal history in Utah is relatively minor and spans events only in the past six months. In July, he was charged with theft by receiving stolen property, a class A misdemeanor. He pleaded guilty to that charge in October and was sentenced to the 30 days in jail he'd already served and was given two years of probation. A class B misdemeanor drug possession charge from August was dismissed in September.

Man arrested in double homicide threatened to kill me, woman's father says
jan 3 2012
MT. PLEASANT, Sanpete County — The father of Angela Hill, the Fairview woman arrested Tuesday in a brief but violent crime spree that stretched from Sanpete County to Wells, Nev., said he was threatened last week by his daughter's alleged partner in crime.
Mike Atwood, who owns a granite installation business in Fairview, said Logan McFarland told him, “If I interfered with (their relationship), I would be looking down the (barrel) of a rifle.”
Atwood said he can’t account for his daughter’s involvement with McFarland, or her alleged participation in a double homicide in Mt. Pleasant nor a carjacking and shooting in West Wendover. Police say the day after the killings, Hill and McFarland carjacked a West Wendover woman, 35. The victim was able to overpower Hill and escape Saturday, but court documents say Hill fired a shot at the victim as she drove away.
“I don’t understand,” Atwood said of his daughter. “She is not a violent person.”
Atwood said the threat from McFarland came last week, shortly before his daughter and McFarland left Sanpete County to allegedly continue their crime spree in Utah and Nevada.
The two were apprehended Tuesday afternoon at a ranch near Wells, Nev.

Murderous Crime Spree Stretches 350 Miles, Comes To An End
(KUTV) WEST WENDOVER - It went from one city to the next - a crime scene that stretched for more than 350 miles.

From Moroni to Mt. Pleasant to Santaquin to West Wendover to Wells, and finally ending 30 miles west of West Wendover.

That was where 24-year-old Logan McFarland and Angela Atwood were finally captured.

According to this affidavit, it all started in Moroni the night of December 29th.

McFarland and Atwood borrowed a 1997 Plymouth Breeze.

Investigators believe they then went to the Fullwoods home in Mt. Pleasant.

That's where they allegedly robbed, shot and killed 70-year-old Leroy Fullwood and his 69-year-old wife Dorotha.

Eventually, they dumped the Plymouth near Santaquin, and that's where investigators say the couple stole a 2004 Saturn.

That Saturn was evenutally picked up in Wells, Nevada where they found a credit card receipt inside.

The credit card number belonged to Mr. Fullwood.

Then, on Christmas Eve in West Wendover, police say 35-year-old Rattana Lirange was carjacked by McFarland and Atwood while in the parking lot of a casino.

About a quarter mile down the road, Lirange put up a fight and bit Atwood's ear and neck, and forced her from the car.

The affidavit says Atwood fired a shot at Lirange as she drove away and hit her in the head.

In her hospital bed, police say Lirange was able to positivly identify Atwood in a lineup.

And then the man hunt went underway.

Angela Atwood Faces New Charges In Utah And Nevada Crime Spree
dqn7gw.jpg
Angela Atwood, 24, who was arrested Jan. 3, 2012 in Nevada on suspicion of killing an elderly Utah couple, driving to Nevada in a stolen car, then shooting a woman during a botched carjacking.
SALT LAKE CITY — Authorities on Wednesday filed new charges against a Utah woman suspected in a crime spree involving burglary, shootings and car theft across Utah and Nevada.

The new allegations underscore a case complicated by incomplete charges and dueling arrest warrants from authorities in Utah and Nevada against a pair of suspects that at times acted together and apart, and sometimes with a circle of friends in weeklong alleged crime spree. Authorities say they aren't finished filing charges or adding defendants.

The latest charges involve Angela Atwood, 25, who is being held in Nevada after she was arrested walking with a Utah man in the Nevada desert on Jan. 3. Both face multiple felony charges stemming from a botched carjacking.

The man, 24-year-old Logan McFarland, also has been charged in a Utah burglary at the home of a retired Mount Pleasant couple who were found shot to death Dec. 31. Authorities, who have yet to file charges for the deaths, had initially believed the crime spree started with those killings.

Atwood faces new charges in the burglary of another Mount Pleasant home on Dec. 28. An affidavit for her arrest implicates McFarland and another woman in the same burglary, though neither has been charged for that crime.

Atwood's lawyer, Frederick Lee, a Nevada public defender, said neither he nor his client were familiar with the latest charges from Utah. Lee said he could offer no comment about any of the charges against her.

McFarland's Nevada lawyer, Gary Woodbury, also declined to comment.

Sanpete County Sheriff's deputies in Utah said their investigation places McFarland at the same Dec. 28 burglary that resulted in the new charges against Atwood.

McFarland and Atwood sat in a car as another woman lured a homeowner to a backyard with a story about wanting to buy a trailer, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. McFarland and Atwood were then able to steal guns, money, a laptop computer, two horse saddles and a makeup bag, authorities said.
Neither McFarland nor the second woman, Allison Boudreaux, has been charged in that burglary.

Atwood, who also goes by Angela Marie Hill, has been charged in Nevada with attempted murder in the shooting of a gym operator who was wounded in the head when authorities say she foiled an attempt by Atwood and McFarland to steal her vehicle in West Wendover.

Atwood and McFarland face other counts in Nevada: kidnapping of the gym teacher, possession of a stolen vehicle, conspiracy and being fugitives from justice.

In Utah, Atwood faces three burglary charges for what authorities describe as a team effort at the Mount Pleasant home of Lynn and Leslie Prothero, who were able to identify the suspects from booking photographs.

Boudreaux said Atwood instructed her to keep Leslie Prothero outdoors discussing the sale of the trailer while Atwood and McFarland "went through the house to steal things," according to court documents.

The affidavit, meanwhile, offered a new timeline for the killing of LeRoy and Ann Fullwood. Authorities have said they found the couple dead Dec. 31, but case files suggest the murder took place a day earlier.

Authorities believe the Fullwoods' house was ransacked Dec. 28, the same day the other house was burglarized.

District Judge Nancy Porter, sentenced McFarland to up to 56 years in prison with eligibility for a parole hearing after about 21 years. He received credit for 870 days served.

Gary Woodbury, appointed defense attorney, reiterated comments he made at trial that McFarland never intended to kidnap Keomanivong.

McFarland used to be “a good little Mormon boy,” Woodbury said, until he got involved in methamphetamine, which clouded his judgment and drove him to make more poor choices. The defense argued to the judge the person before her was more like the law-abiding, sober McFarland, who had been behind bars and off drugs since January 2012, than the calculating Al-Caponian criminal that the prosecutor made him out to be.

Woodbury blamed Hill for the kidnapping. He said a male human’s biologically-bred natural instinct to protect a female — Angela Hill, in McFarland’s case — coupled with a meth-addled mindset, made McFarland incapable of making sound decisions or considering the consequences of his immediate actions.

http://elkodaily.com/news/mcfarland...cle_59e4261c-e159-11e3-ab05-001a4bcf887a.html

Elko District Judge Nancy Porter threw out a relatively lenient sentencing recommendation and sentenced Utah female desperado Angela Hill to 30 years in prison last week.

Hill avoided trial by pleading guilty to robbery, burglary and kidnapping and agreeing to testify against her partner, Logan McFarland. The woman sobbed as Porter effectively more than doubled the sentence recommended by Parole and Probation.

The felonies stem from a bi-state violent and deadly crime spree the Utah Bonnie and Clyde committed over the 2012 New Years weekend.

McFarland and Hill are accused of committing or being involved a host of other crimes over the 2012 New Year Holiday including the double murder of an elderly Mt. Pleasant couple Woody and Ann Fullwood and the attempted killing of Wendover gym owner Rattana Keomanivong.

While it was Hill and not McFarland who was charged with the attempted murder of Keomanivong, in jail house interviews Hill placed almost all of the blame for the shooting and the other crimes squarely on the shoulders of her accomplice Logan McFarland and claimed she was another victim.

In Thursday’s sentencing Judge Porter made it abundantly clear that she was not buying any of it.

What about the natural instinct to protect the old woman they murdered? I hope the defense attorney cringed inside when he offered that pathetic excuse.

Yeah.

The smirk in her mugshot screams “I was so scared for my life so I had to murder and rob!!!” :penguin:

I’m so sick of these stupid chicks trying to play the damsel in distress card, just because of their gender, only after being busted.
She’s a victim? :fish:

I hope she becomes one, except for real this time, during her 30 years.
