Sentenced: Janay Swain, 4 Is Dead Because Mom Is Stupid & Darnell Bitting Had A Rifle

Authorities arrested a 31-year-old man who allegedly shot and killed a 4-year-old girl in a domestic dispute in Akron, Ohio.

Darnell Bitting is charged with murder and using weapons under disability in the shooting, which took place outside of a home Friday evening, according to police.

The medical examiner’s office identified the little girl as Janay Swain.

Four children — ages 7, 6, 4, and 3 — were seated inside a car with their grandmother.

The children’s mother told police she had visited the house to retrieve her belongings. No one answered the door and she broke out some of the home’s windows, police said.

A man with a rifle emerged from the residence and fired at the car.

The grandmother, who was in the passenger seat, climbed into the driver’s seat and drove away from the home, but not before the 4-year-old was struck by a bullet.

A human shit has been convicted of murder and other charges in February's fatal shooting of a 4-year-old girl sitting in a car with her three siblings and grandmother in front of his home.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports a Summit County jury deliberated around four hours Friday before finding 32-year-old Darnell Bitting, of Akron, guilty in the death of Janaya Swain.

Prosecutors said Bitting stood on his front porch and fired an AK-47 assault rifle at Janaya's mother, who was trying to retrieve belongings and broke out windows when he wouldn't answer the door. The shot missed and struck Janaya in the head.

Bitting testified Thursday he thought he was under attack. His attorneys argued it was a warning shot.

He could face life in prison when sentenced Wednesday.

An Akron man has been sentenced to life in prison for the shooting death of a 4-year-old girl.

Darnell Bitting, 32, was found guilty on Oct. 5 of two counts of murder and six counts of felonious assault, according to the Summit County Prosecutor's Office.

“This tragedy will leave its mark for years to come. Four-year-old Janaya was full of life and always there to help a friend. She will be sorely missed,” said Prosecutor Walsh. “We are pleased to know the man responsible for her death will never again have the chance to hurt an innocent life. Our hope is that today’s sentence brings Janaya’s family some peace.”
