Harris, 22, entered the school at 944 Evergreen St. SE about 8 a.m. “without checking into the office,’’ Wiersema said in seeking felony warrants from a Grand Rapids District Court magistrate.
“While he was there, he initially made contact with the first victim. He told her he was there at her mom’s request, that he knew her mom and he was there to check her pants size,’’ Wiersema testified. “He took her into a private room and proceeded to pull her pants down.
“She had leggings on and he told her to take the leggings down,’’ Wiersema testified. “She refused. He put his hands on her thighs and she ended up running out of the room.’’
Harris then made contact with the second victim and provided the same story regarding her mother “and wanting to be there to check her pants size,’’ Wiersema testified. “Prior to getting the pants down, she fled from him out of the room.’’
The girls notified school officials; Harris turned himself in to Grand Rapids police after video showing him on school grounds was released to the media.
A probable cause hearing on the felony charges is set for Feb. 19 in Grand Rapids District Court. Harris is being held in the Kent County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
This is not his first run-in with police. Harris, who lives with his mother on Lafayette Avenue north of Highland Street SE, is currently on probation for felonious assault and domestic violence.
He assaulted his former girlfriend with a knife on Christmas Eve, 2013 at the victim’s home on the city’s Northeast Side. In exchange for his pleas, the Kent County Prosecutor’s Office agreed not to up the charge to assault with intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder.
