Police: 14-year-old shoots, kills intruder in southeast Mecklenburg Co.

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. - Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said the second man involved in a home break-in that turned deadly near the Charlotte/Mint Hill border has been arrested. Another suspected intruder was killed when a 14-year-old inside the house shot and killed him Tuesday night.

[...]

The two intruders, who police identified as 18-year-old Isai Delcid and his 22-year-old brother Carlos Delcid, attempted to break into the home on Rolling Fields Lane just after 5 p.m., according to investigators. Isai was shot and died at the scene while police said Carlos fled.

Officers arrested Carlos late Tuesday night and charged him with first-degree burglary.

[...]

The grandfather, George Wyant, told Channel 9 his 14-year-old grandson shot the intruder.

"It's not something you can be proud of. But, I'm happy the way it turned out. Because my wife is getting over an illness," Wyant said.

[...]

Wyant told Channel 9 that the suspects parked their car in the driveway, walked up the steps to his back porch and tried to get into his house through a back window. That's when he said his grandson came to the window and told them to stop.

"He was coming through the window and my grandson said, 'Stop, I have a gun." -- grandfather George Wyant

Wyant said the suspect, Isai Delcid, wouldn't listen. He said that's when Isai broke through the window and his grandson started firing.

[...]

Officers said the intruder's brother, Carlos, ran from the scene but police quickly tracked him down because of his electronic monitor.

Investigators said Carlos was already on probation for breaking into the same house twice in the past four months -- once in September and again in October.

Wyant said he believes Carlos targeted his house after seeing his wife's prescription pills while performing duct work in the attic.

[...]

Police had used fingerprints to identify Delcid as the suspect in a second break-in at the home in October.

Prosecutors later dismissed the charge, but were going ahead with a case charging Delcid in a break in just 12 days later. Delcid was out on bond and wearing an electronic monitor when police said he and his brother tried to break into the Wyants' home again.

CMPD: Shots fired into home where 14-year-old killed intruder last week

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. - There was more violence at the home where a 14-year-old boy shot and killed a suspect intruder last week.

Someone drove up to the home and fired shots into the window Tuesday night. Police will not say if they have any suspects in this latest shooting, but reporter Trish Williford saw officers outside the home for much of Wednesday morning.

George Wyant, the homeowner, showed Channel 9 the shotgun hole in the window of his sunroom where his 74-year-old wife was sound asleep.

[...]

Wyant said police told him someone pulled their car off of Highway 218, walked right up to the back of the home and opened fire.

Wyant believes this shooting may have been in retaliation for the deadly shooting at his home that happened just over a week ago.

More at the links, including a video interview with the grandfather. The grandson's father was murdered outside his business in 2008; his eldest son was involved in an attempted bus hijacking afterwards but "surrendered peaceably" - allegedly due to distress over his father's murder.

"It's not something you can be proud of.

Why?

nvestigators said Carlos was already on probation for breaking into the same house twice in the past four months -- once in September and again in October.

Police had used fingerprints to identify Delcid as the suspect in a second break-in at the home in October.

Delcid was out on bond and wearing an electronic monitor when police said he and his brother tried to break into the Wyants' home again.

I initially read this to mean they were in legal trouble for previously attempting to rob a different house on two separate occasions. Is this article saying those two attempts were also at the wyant home? The last bolded line there, "break into the wyants home AGAIN", makes it sound like this was their THIRD attempt robbing the place. Why the fuck was this guy allowed out on bond if he had a lengthy history of victimizing this home/family?

Wyant believes this shooting may have been in retaliation for the deadly shooting at his home that happened just over a week ago.

No shit. Fucking trash.

The grandson's father was murdered outside his business in 2008

Good lord, where is this town? Sounds like a fucking cesspool of massive proportions.

Well, not everyone feels that mere thievery deserves summary execution. But in light of the other details (that they'd repeatedly burglarized the same home in the past, and been caught, and one of them was wearing an electronic tracking device when they committed this third crime) I can hardly argue that society lost anything of value last week.

Well, not everyone feels that mere thievery deserves summary execution.

And they know that's all the criminals wanted how?

When it comes to someone breaking into your home, it's in your best interest to assume the worst. Not to mention, these guys sounded desperate as shit, one already on probation and ankled, their third burglary attempt in 3-4 months, 5 pm in the afternoon breakin. These fucks couldn't even wait till it was dark out or people were asleep? They do it right as people are getting off work and heading back home, right when kids should be home after school? Desperate people do desperate things.

Plus, you can judge the quality of a person by their family/friends. And there is that shooting incident in retaliation. These shitheads and everyone they associate with is a piece of vile garbage that should be wiped out.

It's not a matter of, "thievery deserves death". It's a matter of protecting yourself and your family. This kid did a tremendous job of that. If his gramps ain't proud of him, i sure as fuck am. Good on you 14 year old kid, your solid aim has helped make america a better place. He should be given a sizeable monetary reward.

I dunno, he didn't really elaborate on it in his quote, right? Maybe he explains what he meant in the video interview - I was too lazy to bother watching it. If he just meant it in the general sense of "killing is always bad, but sometimes necessary" then I can understand his sentiment of not taking pride in his grandson's actions. Maybe the kid was traumatized by it. Different people handle situations like that differently, after all. Some would be fine with it and be proud of their actions, while others might have nightmares about it the rest of their lives. And some might be unable to take someone else's life even in self-defense; sadly, those ones presumably tend to end up dead in a life-threatening situation. I'm glad the grandson wasn't one of those - it sounds like their family has suffered enough tragedy. I do hope they catch whoever committed the retaliation - preferably in a hail of bullets.

Apparently these two didn't learn their lessons after so many chances. I'm glad the 14 yo didn't get hurt but that will stay with him until the day he dies. I hope the brother who left his brother to die gets charged with murder for being involved in a criminal act that resulted in someone's death. Low life deserves everything he's given plus more. Chances are he continued to convince his brother to go along with him and he will most likely end up just like his brother, 6 feet under.
